PO had my 49's wheels re-rimmed with 6" hoops on Hudson centers. Just another option
if your concerned about wheel strength. I'm pretty sure the old Nascar racers reinforced their
wheels but not sure what they did...

  • Back in those days all we did to the rims was weld in a second center so that they could not pull through the lug stud. Wheels had to be stock and rims never came apart. My rims are original with the car, had 87,000 miles on them when I started my 5 year restoration, and since then have driven 140,000 on them which make a total of 227,000 miles on them and they are still perfect. Don't strain the bead with over size tires. Walt.

Rocket: I have Coker 16" x 6:75 radials with radial? tubes on my '40 and am very happy with them after 6 years. They were designed to look "vintage."

Bet the Pa. Turnpike is in worse condition than any North Dakota road!
