1933 Terraplane water pump disassembly, info needed
I started working on my original 33 t8 water pump to get final pricing for new castings. At some point, my pulley had one of the flanges brazed and the entire pulley was brazed to the impeller shaft.
Today I ground the braze off as much as possible, but still have to figure out how to get this apart without doing any more damage.
Can someone post pictures of how an oe pulley months to the shaft? Also, any tips on removing the impeller shaft once I get the pulley off?
Thanks,
Matt

I ended up splitting the brazed pulley to remove it from the shaft. The center of it was mangled from the previous repair, so I figured it was best the sacrifice the pulley ( of which I have a spare) to save the shaft and housing. It looks like the shaft needs to be pressed out from the rear, as the OD for the pulley is slightly larger that the brass bushing at the front. Unfortunately, the impeller has also been brazed on. Ideas?
The next challenge will be getting the threaded insert out for the casting house to make a pattern:)
Thanks,

Typically impellers and pulleys for most brands of water pump were pressed onto the shafts with an interferance fit. A 10 or 20 ton press will get yours apart if that's how it was put together. You will of course need to get the impellor hot enough to melt the braze otherwise there is no way in the world you will get it apart.0

The trick is going to be doing this without breaking the cast housing. It looks like that's what I need though. I think I can grind or mill some of the braze off vs heating. Hopefully I can work on this more this weekend.0
