National Meet - Walk-ins/Parts Shopping

It is quite expensive to put on a National meet and a lot of work for the members who host it. I feel you should pay registration fee if you want to attend any of the events, including flea market.0
-
There are many reasons why we do a National Hudson show. High on that list is to excite folks about the world of Hudsons. We encourage the public to drop by (and there are no fees to attend our events) and meet our members, to enjoy the many cars that are on display and to visit with Hudson folk about their cars. The members who bring their parts and offer them for sale do so for a number of reasons. Part of that is to help other Hudson people to find the parts that they need and to touch base with a group of people that are building the cars we expect to enjoy at future shows. This Forum is open to members of the Hudson Club as well as to all folks who own or want to own a Hudson, Essex or Terraplane. If you are not a member of the Hudson club you might enjoy the friendships you will make at this type of meet. If you are a member it is always good to meet and renew old friendships and new ones. If you choose not to be a member of our great club I encourage you to consider membership; but, whatever your plans are you should definately drop down and spend some time with us...0

well put Brownie0

I THINK BOTH DAVE AND BROWNIE HAVE GREAT POINTS. WITH OUT THE REGISTION FEE WE WOULD NOT HAVE A NATIONAL MEET AS THERE IS ALOT OF COSTS INVOLVED AND IT IS A GREAT WAY TO GET NEW MEMBERS THE FEE IS NOT A GREAT AMOUNT I TO FEEL IF YOUR LOOKING FOR PARTS YOU SHOULD REGISTER0
-
Thank you one and all. I only asked if there was a "walk-in" fee.
I am a member of the National club, just not a local one. I plan to join one once the Army quits moving us next year (retirement - last move).0 -
You should consider retirement in Northern Utah--we would love to have you!! And by the way, Thank you for your service..

Also, thank you for your service and representing our country. Also consider the Mid-South HET club mostly in TN, AL, KY, and other states, where will you retire to? Bob P

My career was over in 1995 after 15 years due to the Clinton reduction. My wife will retire after 28 years next May unless she gets selected for O-6/Colonel. The Promotion Board is meeting this week with the results announced in November.
We hope to return to the Midwest with Indianapolis as our target. Both our families are there and Indiana is where we were both born and raised.0 -
Well, we sure would have loved to have you out west, but the Midwest is a good next choice. are you working on a project (50 Pacemaker?) how about a few photo's--the avtar looks good.0
-
My Pacemaker is a Deluxe. It was original to my wife's grandparents. We are technically 3rd generation owners but second family to have it and take car of it.
All projects I have done since 2006 are classified as rolling restorations - anything that technically could be done in a weekend and have it back running when project was done. I had to do this in Pennsylvania to meet the local township laws.
Several projects took longer because of having to learn the skills, find the parts or send off the parts to be repaired (carb, clutch, water pump, fuel pump).
This car is a 20 footer. She looks good when clean from 20 feet. But she needs to repainted as there are some nicks and scratches. The interior is 100% original. The door panel show some age and darkening.0 -
This brings up a point worth talking about however. I am sure there are a lot of folks that at the last minuette find they can make a one day run to a national or regional meet. Then are faced with the $25.00 or so registration and Extra $5.00 or so for late registration for one day.
Why not set up a daily fee for those late visitors ? Say maybe $5-8.00 for each day you figure you would stay,

PACEMAKER 500 1ST OFF THANK YOU AND YOUR WIFE FOR YOUR SERVICE!!!

TALLENT R
THATS A GREAT IDEA ARE YOU OFFERING TO RUN THIS PROGRAM!!
I'M SURE THE HOST CHAPTER HAS THERE HANDS FULL JUST TRYING TO PUT ON THE NATIONAL MEET HAVE YOU EVER HAD TO WAIT IN LINE AT THE REGITRASTION DESK AT A NATIONAL MEET WELL I HAVE BEEN ON BOTH SIDES OF THE TABLE IT'S NOT FUN THEY DON'T NEED MORE PAPER WORK THEY NEED LESS AS I SAID BEFORE IT TAKES $ TO RUN THIS KIND OF SHOW THE HIGHER PRICE FOR LATE ARIVALS MAKES IT WORTH THE HOST CHAPTERS EFFORT. IF YOU PLAN ON 1,000 PEOPLE AND YOU GET 2,000 YOU NEED TO ACT FAST AND DOING THINGS AT THE LAST MINUTE COSTS MORE
I'LL GET OFF MY SOAP BOX SORRY FOR MY RANT BUT AFTER PUTTING ON THE NATIONAL IN PITTSBURGH IN 2004 I THINK MORE ABOUT THE BUSINESS END OF THINGS

One and All,
I think it is too late to do this (a Daily Fee) for the National Meet this year. I recommend that it at least be considered for future Nationals - even if it means waiting until 2014 or later to make any legally required changes to the Club By-laws.
It was not my intent to cause a stir. I only wanted to know if there was a Daily Fee for those that find themselves able to stop by at the last minute.0 -
I can see that you understand where Paul & others are coming from so will add that there will be hundreds of people milling thru the swap area, on & off, for hours each day. It won't be fenced or roped off.
Often people just driving by, or perhaps staying in the hotel, will mosey out to see what's going on. No one asks for I.D., vendors don't ask for picture I.D. before they will sell you something, LOL, so there's really no "biggie" about someone sauntering into the swap area who is not a member or someone who is but hasn't registered.0 -
I will pay registration fee for any full time military that wants to attend our national. I will be there from Monday thru Sunday, see me and I will reimburse you as a thank you for serving!0
-
Perhaps some of the forum readers have the wrong idea about the nationals. There is no "gate" or entry point. We are scattered about the grounds like the general public. We will be shareing the hotels and parking areas with anyone that comes along. To participate in any of the events planned, should be done in advance of the meet. If not in advance, then it would be courtious to register. Just stopping by to look at the cars.. I think you would be welcome.0

Our club in Sydney Australia hosted the American Independents Display Day last Sunday 8th July, we charged car entrants $5.00 to enter their car in the show, and for that they got a sample bags full of magazines worth many many dollars, far more than their entry fee. The general public were admitted free of charge, The amount of photos taken and the questions asked by the public does our cause the world of good. We have no overheads, as the ground is supplied free of charge, the only charge for the public is $3.00 if they wish to visit the Historic house where the show is held, the profits from the car show go to the restoration and maintence of this house, the volunteer's of the house tell us this is their biggest day of the year due to the cars being on show.

I'm sorry you had so much trouble running the meet in Pittsburgh Paul . For what its worth I thought it went off quite well from an attendees point of view. The only complaints I remember were an A/C problem in the ballroom .
But that was not your fault,
Roger0 -
If you're not able to bring a Hudson and all the events along with the host motels are sold out, what is the purpose in registering other than helping fund the event ?0
-
I think you just answered your own question! LOL

TALLENT R WE HAD VERY LITTLE PROBLEMS IN PITTSBURGH OTHER THAN THE RAIN WE HAD THE 1ST 2 DAYS I WAS TALKING ABOUT THE EFFORT PUT FORTH BY THE CHAPTER MEMBERS WE ALL GLADLY DID WHAT WE DID FOR THE GOOD OF THE GREAT CLUB WE ARE PROWD TO BE A MEMBER OF0
-
@Huddy42 Where in Sydney did you have the event?0
-
Interesting thread. I'll throw my 2 cents in. Paul makes some good points. Having worked with the Home Chapter on the 2009 National in Pontiac, I understand what Paul is saying. It was an eye-opener for me; the amount of work and behind-the-scenes preparations, not to mention the costs involved. That being said, I think the bottom line is this-if you are going to attend and can spend some time at the Meet-pay the Registration Fee if you are able. I have never seen Hudson Security Police chase anyone interested in the cars or meet away! Come and enjoy the great cars and people.0

"We hope to return to the Midwest with Indianapolis as our target. Both our families are there and Indiana is where we were both born and raised."
Unfortunately there are no Hudson products or owners in the indianapolis area...0 -
SamJ,
Dr Doug is just southeast of the city. Close enough for me.
And the Pacemaker I own was original to Indiana - a dealer neat Scottsburg (south, 30 miles north of Louisville).0 -
That was supposed to be a joke, P500...Indy and Indiana has Hudson lovers coming out of woodwork...0
-
SamJ,
I apologize for missing it.0 -
FYI, there is no walk in fee for the Gettysburg HET National.
