What is the proper screw size for the Temp Sending Unit for a '50 Pacemaker, 232?

I lost mine and I do not want to strip the threads testing screws.

I'm pretty sure those screws are 10-32, but maybe 10-24. Try both, gently. The correct one will go in pretty easily.
  • I purchased an 8-32, 10-32 & 10-24. All too long as I remember this screw is only 1/4 inch long.

At first I thought the 8-32 was the wrong size as it started well, went in smooth but only for a 1/4 inch. The 10's are too big. So I thought maybe 8-24. But I ended up finding the original when I dropped a lock washer and went to pick it up.

I will be trying to start the car later today.
  • If you happen to have a common electricians wire stripper tool they generaly have a small bolt cutter in the end of tool. Used for 6-32 , 8-32 ,10-32 etc . You can then shorten the bolt to what you need,

Remember the holes in the tank have a "bottom" to them, so a too-long screw will bottom out after having gone 1/4" or so into the threaded hole. That means the screws can't be more than about 3/8".
