Anybody try Dwolla instead of paypal? its only 25 cents per transaction, but you cant use a credit card.0
-
Don't know if it affects KGAP or not but PayPal is now holding onto funds for a period of time before releasing them.
I sold some camera lenses this week and the payments came in two days. I can't access them until the lenses are received by the buyer.
The site says July 29th.
I've been a member of EBay since 2003 and have a feedback of 599 deals and 100%. Probably did another 8 or 9 hundred in the early days when there was no feedback left.
Don't bother to try to call and see what the deal is, you'll only waste your time and wind up postal. Lol. The call center is in Asia and the old US numbers are cancelled.
A method to play with your money for a few days in the market.
I'm not a big, consistent seller but they may be doing others this way. Kinda interrupts your cash flow.
I was used to selling and then using their debit card for my little projects. Now I'm waiting around. Lol.

I just met my limit on PayPal. They want my bank account info now. NO WAY! I got duped by that several years ago. They wanted to "verify" me by having my bank account info. When my credit card company stopped payment on a bogus transaction, PayPal took the funds out of my bank account! It took a while, but I got it back. I only opened a new account when I could use ONLY my credit card. That verify stuff is crap.. They say it's for security and prevention of fraud.. Bull Crap! It gives them more resources to get funds. Try contacting them! That is frustrating too.
OK off my soap box.0 -
Rick - perhaps you can answer a question for me: I've never sold anything & been paid via PayPal but just sold a piece of Railton literature to an Englishman who wanted to pay me that way. I just got an e-mail saying they had recieved the money. My question is, now how do I get it from PayPal? Will they credit the credit card I have on file with them?
I've only bought stuff using PayPal in the past.0 -
Rick, On refunds --you should have called Paypal, they would take that charge off. I had to do that and didn't have a problem.
The only problem in this process is that the customer can't go back thru their 'credit card' or 'payment service' for non-receipt. Something that (sadly stated), is often needed in these days and times...
As far as that goes, I no longer do business (unless it is some one I have dealt with before or a club member) if I can't use some form of payment that allows me to re-coupe my money if the item is never sent to me nor is as advertised. I got burned twice using checks and finally took one of them to small claims court and won, but it was a hassle and I did it out of principle more than anything.0 -
46 - right, went into my account, found the $$ credited to me, then asked for a check to be sent to my home address; "piece of cake" (they charged me $1.50 for the $90 check but I think that's a lot less than a commercial bank would charge for a foreign monetary transaction).

Do as I do. I sent a lot of parts over seas and have them pay by WESTERN UNION, all they do is send you the number they receive and you collect the cash here and no problems. I tell all in the states to pay that way if they can't send a check. No personal info needed. I will not collect it any other way. My info is for me only. Walt.0

I was not going to comment on the policy of someones business, but I changed my mind. I have never had problems with any one envolved with the HET, so no one on this forum should take offense. In the past I purchased parts from sellers on Ebay, Hemmings and other various medias. I personally would be very hesitant to send anyone, that I don't know, a check for a part that I have not seen & or received. There are too many folks that overestimate the quality of their item as to gain a sale, and once they have your check, they then send out the part... after the check clears. That's asking for trouble, and that is the reason PayPal has the guarantee, how ever weak it may be. Wire transfers are out of the question and are not free. IMO, Credit cards( especially one time use ones) are the best. Now, as for the seller, sure, they want the best for themselves, but the buyer, if given a choice on how to pay, will avoid WTs, checks, or CODs( must pay the PO before seeing the item) and shop with the guy who offers PayPal or a credit card( gauranteed for each party). I vaguely remember alot of folks that claimed in the past that they sent checks to KGap and never got their orders. I don't know if thats true or not, but PayPal & credit cards avoid that confrontation. Which may account why in the past year or so, I have not seen complaints. Ron0

Never had any problems with Paypal. Certainly most convenient method for getting paid, and paying for stuff in overseas currency. They remit the money to my Bank when I ask for it. Western Union is inconvenient, as are Bank cheques.
Geoff0 -
I don't know about other countries, but from New Zealand, Western Union is both very inconvenient & particularly expensive, so I choose not to use Western Union. PayPal is both convenient & inexpensive & can be organised from the comfort of your computer. If the PayPal charges that a seller has to cover are a problem then maybe a system where the seller receives the FULL AMOUNT & the buyer carries the PayPal charges would work.0
-
I use paypal often to get paid for my accumulation of 50 plus years that I'm selling
off. I normally ask the buyer to pay 5% for the fees. Usually less than a money order and stamp.
My complaint with them is they want me to put my social security number on the computer
so they can give it to the IRS! I'm constantly told don't enter your SSN in the computer , yet they hound me for it.I will have to eventually quit using Paypal for that reason.
As far as checks , I never wait for a check to clear. I figure the guy trusts me to send what he paid for , I trust his check is good. Been working so far.

The bottom line is that the current, de facto standard for businesses to accept payment for goods or services is either a credit card or Paypal. That's irrefutable. It is onerous that merchants (i.e. ANYONE who sells online) have to pay either the merchant credit card fees (anywhere from 2-3%) or the Paypal fee (just shy of 3%), but if you are serious about operating a REAL business, that needs to be considered the cost of doing business (simple solution, just fold the payment costs into your pricing schemes).
The alternative would be the Dale Cooper model... send out the parts and an invoice immediately on receipt of a phone order, and then wait for the customer to send the payment on the honor system. My guess is that there have been very few times he's been ripped off using this policy, and that the very few times he has, the money lost was insignificant in the overall scheme of things (and offset by his savings in Paypal or credit card fees).
This baloney of asking someone to send a check, then holding the check until it clears before shipping just doesn't cut it in the 21st century world of instant communication. If these guys who advertise in WTN with the above requirements had any idea how much business they lose with their stone-age policies, they would get with the program. But then, they probably aren't interested in running a real business. Personally, unless there are no other options, I won't buy anything online unless I can use a credit card or Paypal. Not a perfect system, but it's the way the world turns.0 -
I (Vic's Auto Window Channeling) use the Dale Cooper model, I send out the items, with an invoice. Have only had one non-payment in the years I have been selling (non-Huson).0

non-Hudson, Fingers still can't type.0

Most people I've dealt with are at least trustworthy enough to carry out a transaction. What I think PayPal is doing (but I can't prove) is using the funds they put on hold for 21 days to play short-term or day-trade investments and make a profit before they make the funds available to you again. I don't believe it's to protect buyers for refunds. If true any unreasonable amount of time they hold your funds they should be paying YOU interest for. The banks sure would never make anyone a short-term loan for free. Why do they expect customers to do it?0
-
I TOO HAVE JUST SHIPPED PARTS IF IT'S A CLUB MEMBER AND THEN THEY SEND ME A CHECK I'VE NEVER NOT GOT MY MONEY0
-
Let's face it guys - this club isn't big enough for cheats (sorry to be blunt). Everybody knows everybody else, someway or other. With the internet and the HET underground tele-person system somebody tries to rip off an HET member it ain't gonna be long before at least 2,000 people know about it. I only got hit once myself - ain't bad for 40+ years.

Disappointing experience for certain. Being that you were new at the time, it is good that it didn't turn you away from the club. I haven't had one of those experiences, but the things I have bought sight unseen have been few and far between. In the cases of when I have, Jack Miller and Dale Cooper get thumbs up.
On the basis of the thread, the Dale Cooper model or credit card transactions are a must. You add the cost of credit card acceptance into your prices. Overall, you're looking at about 2-3%. Average 1-2% into all your prices and it'll wash. And have a true shipping charge. I am not a fan of the shipping rates based as a percentage of the sale. Just because it is a $100 item, it doesn't mean it always costs more to ship than a $10 item. that was may pet peeve rant0 -
If the Kgap problems we hear of here on the forum are any indication. I am guessing.. And I stress that this is only my opinion. Pay Pal probably won't do business with Kgap. How many disputed delivery and sales transactions does it take to loose your credibility with some entity like Paypal?

From a merchant perspective Paypal has one of the worst user interfaces/customer experiences possible when trying to manage the paypal account. It hasnt changed significantly or gotten better in performance in over 10 years.
I'd suggest going with a 3rd party system like Authorize.Net.0 -
I have used paypal many many times, not only for car parts but things in general, never had a problem, we here in Australia have been advised NOT to use Western Union, not sure why, but, not taking the chance. I have for many years posted parts to all over the country and overseas, included an invoice never had a problem until recently, a guy was desperate for a couple of certain parts, he was delighted that he can get them here as they were parts only for this car made in Australia, was a Terraplane, I had them, packaged them up paid the postage and have heard nothing since, his loss as far as I'm concerned he will get NOTHING else from me, I don't care how desperate he is for the part, the only problem in over 30 years.0

I have never had problems with pay pal. I did once sell some items. I got my money via pay pal. About a week later the byer sent me an email and said he was not happy with the parts (non-hudson hubcaps). I callled him and he had a series of things he did not like including telling me that the hub caps were the wrong year ect. I returned his money via pay pal and told him not to bother sending the parts back and told him how sorry I was that things did not work out for him. He asked me what he should do with the parts--I was really tempted to tell him but I did not. I thought the issue was over--he gave me high praise in the feedback and then about six months later I got a check and letter from him. Best letter I have ever had.... I love to bye parts, I hate to sell anything!!!!0

Will Kgap be at the national?0
-
Wait a minute, are some members of this forum complaining about a 2%-3% increase in prices because a vendor needs to pay a PayPal fee for a service? On a $60 plastic taillight lense, that amounts to $1.80 more. If that increase is a deal breaker, someones in the wrong hobby. However I do agree with a prior statement,ie., something else is up between the two parties, Kgap & Paypal.0
-
Hobbyists are usually pretty trustworthy.
I bought a hydraulic pump for a tractor once, from a guy on the antique tractor board, who"out-Douged" the Doug Cooper model. Said he had a pump that would fit, but didn't know if it was in working condition- so he sent me the pump, said to put it on, and if it was OK, send him $150, otherwise send pump back.
In the process of changing out the pump, I discovered that my pump was OK, it was something else at fault- so didn't need the pump, but sent him the $150 anyhow, because that was our deal.0 -
Check out this site if you want your eyes opened. www.paypalsucks.com0

Dave, this site seems like a mean spirited advertising ploy for a competitor of Pay pal. I'm sure there have been "horror stories" in the past with PP, But all in all, I have not had one... yet.0
-
I agree with RonS , but it's still a good idea to have a seperate account that is linked to Paypal,
and keep a minimum balance.Never know if someone will give a bad review and lock it up.
I've had good results so far ,other than the SSN issue.

We like using PayPal. In accepting payment in any form there is a risk...fraudulent credit cards, bad checks, false money orders, even counterfit cash. PayPal accepts the buyer's payment method and takes all the downside risk. Works for us.0
-
I have used it and loved it.. $5,000.00 worth of purchases. All backed by Discover card. No problems at all....I don't think I sold anything through PayPal just purchases of all kinds. Now they shut me down because they say they NEED my bank transfere numbers etc. to make things more SECURE ??? Secure for who? Certainly not for me. Why isn't a credit card enough? It was for the first $5K they got a share of. No explaination other than they want our transactions "more secure".
Why won't I give them my bank info? Because several years ago I went along with them and did just that.. Gave them my bank numbers. To be "verified". A fraudulant sale went through, I stopped it via my credit card and PayPal took it out of my bank account with no notice. It amounted to several hundred dollars. It took a long time to resolve because PayPal did not cooperate.! Screw me once... shame on you.. screw me twice.... shame on me.0
