Transmission oil design flaw

Has anyone had the good fortune to try and put transmission oil in a Hudson without taking the floorboard out? I am thinking about drilling a hole in the floorboard to make access to my overdrive transmission refill hole. Any comments pro or con?

    You can do it the way intended ... via the upper plug(s) on the right side of the OD and the main tranny. Requires a pump of some kind, available at auto parts stores.

    I JUST USE A TURKEY BASETER SUCK UP THE OIL AND INSTALL I USE LUCAS GEAR OIL IN ALL MY TRANNYS

    or most jugs of gear oil have a car that tapers to a point, slip a piece of tube over it on a fairly full bottle and give it a squeeze.

    i have a similar spout and hose on a plastic hudsonite bottle for clutch fluid changes

    I went so far as to lift the right side of my car with a jack to let the full amount drain into the tranny and OD. Since it was cold (March), I put the Lucus Gear Oil bottles in a warm water bath. They emptied right out.

    I went to O"Reilly's and bought a pump that looks promising for $16.00. I'll let you know how it works out.

    On my r.h.d. Hornet I just take out the insert for filling the master cylinder, and use a flexible tube in the gear oil bottle to fill the tranny. Do l.h.d. cars not have this blanked off and removable?

    Geoff, all the LHD cars have a roughly 3" hole to the right of center of the floor pan, for filling the automatic tranny. The hole is there regardless of what tranny is in the car.

    Its not a "Flaw" it is the way things were done. The service station had a small portable pump with gear lube. The unit had a hose and small curved tube to fit the hole. You just pumped the handle to add as much as needed.

    Here's a pump that's supposedly available from NAPA for $5. Fits on top of the oil bottle (if the threads match!

    There's not a lot of clearance under the car to work, however. I used a turkey baster the other day and had trouble 1) getting it into the oil bottle to fill up, and 2) emptying it more than halfway, since the squeeze bulb only sends the lubricant just so far up the tube before it runs out of steam! I ended up using a small oil can with the side-trigger, and it dispensed so little oil each squeeze that I started getting carpel tunnel syndrome.

    The pump I got from O'Reilly's worked really well. It siphoned 80W 90 oil out of the container and into the transmission without making a mess. I wish I knew how to post pictures on this sight so I could show what it looks like.
