MSN used to have a website where people could establish an ongoing chatroom for their group, which could be used at any time at no charge. That's history now, but I wonder if there are any other such services.
Or, there might be an inexpensive software or a service that could be purchased or rented by the H-E-T and then linked to the H-E-T website. Of course that would cost money, but maybe some of the Club parts suppliers could buy advertising space on the chat page to recoup their investment.0 -

That's a good question. Personally, I'm only an (almost) 10 year member. I got to the party late, but I got here, anyway!
Never really kept track, but I think the vast majority of regular posters are club members. This excludes the "lurkers", or sometimes posters, of which there are usually quite a number. My best guess that out of the regulars, 80% would be club members.0 -

Folks, I have been looking at Chat software that works on Joomla. I am hoping that when we get the new site rolled out that I can put a chat on there for you. If you want to see what is available Google Joomla Chat. There is a Joomla extensions site. We are currently on Joomla 1.7 but at somepoint will need to upgrade to 2.5. It looks like the most popular is more of a person to person rather than community. If you find something that looks like it will work, take a look at the annual subscription price.

I have been a regular pontificator on chat and forum since '98 when I got back into the Hudson business, after having 4 of them in the 50s and 60s. Incidentally, my 49 C was barned with minor damage and 29K miles in 63 about the time I sold the old 51.
I drove it from the Adirondacks here to my first national at Pitt in 04 and got picked by Bill Albright0 -

"Chat" was the H-E-T Club's first mode of being on the internet, back in the late 90's. Dave Sollon worked with a fellow at "Classicar" to start this up. (Classicar eventually went bust, to be replaced later by "Classiccar" with three c's.) Ironic that, now, the Club is on the internet big-time but the Chat format has gone the way of all flesh (or electrons).
Aaron, I'm hopeful you can eventually get it running again so we can have "real time" conversations amongst one another. Possibly we could put ads on it, posted by Hudson suppliers only, in order to finance the added cost. Or, people could contribute each year and get their name in lights! I'm all for keeping costs down, as you can see...0 -

Everybody knows I've been around a long time - and no, I wasn't around when the first Hudson came off the line. Been a member for 43 years. Met a lot of great people on this trip - and, sadly, lost way to many great people. Plan on being around for a few more years.

learned to drive on dad's '48 C8 sd. - my 2nd car a '49 S6 cp. which I drove to college from '55 to '57 then forgot about Hudson 'til met Fred Roth in '60 - joined HET in '62 when wife & I bought our 1st Hudson, a '53 H cp. off a used car lot in Santa Monica - for better or worse met one Tim Rice, who lived in S. M. & was an HET member, via the Roster & bought 1st antique Hudson, a '29 cp. & we were "off to the races" for decades to come, LOL0

Joined the HET back in the early 80's when I had my Hudsons then dropped out.
Got my 112 back in 2006 ; joined again then let it lapse because of cost. Rejoined again earlier again this year and will keep it going hopefully0 -

Nevada - I don't know. I left L. A. over 20 years ago. He's younger than I so may still be "alive and kicking". Last time I was in touch with him he no longer had any Hudsons but had some other cars stashed out in the Palmdale/Lancaster area in a barn.
Meeting him actually changed my whole life as got so interested in antique Hudsons. He kept finding cars for me to buy, not him, LOL (two '29 H club sedans, one nice other a parts car, nice now in Eldon's emporium, and a '30 H brougham which was completely original). At first, as we lived in an apt., I was always looking for garages (used to walk up & down alleys, if grass growing in front of doors, not being used so would go around, knock on door, and see if I could rent it). Then we got our 1st house, a dinky 1-bedroom BUT on a large lot with a detached 2 car garage - I had an additional garage built attaching the existing garage & the house which = a 9 car garage!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH, & I kept it FULL, LOL.0 -

I joined in 1981 when I was 16 and got my first Hudson (the one in my avatar). It was the only kind of car my dad would let me have (smart man......)

Joined back in the early 70's when I first met Roy and Merrit Marks at Merrit's home when I saw Roy's 48 coupe setting outside and stopped to see the owner and check out the Hudson. I was driving my 49 Hudson coupe at the time.
Got busy building a home and raising a family, sold all my Hudson's and got back into them a few years ago when I started restoring the 37 Terraplane for a club member (cunningly sent to me by Roy!) and was brought to me in boxes and bags, then bought a 53 super wasp coupe that needs #6 sleeved after the head gasket blew and the car was stored without fixing it.

Brownie , I'm done. Had some great cars and lots of good times.
The wife grew tired of the weekly car meets on the asphalt parking lots.
Not enough money for both of us to do are own thing.
I actually got tired of cars after almost 50 years of working on them for a living and restoring 13 cars.
Now I enjoy hearing about you guys experiencing the things I did.
Only difference is the number of 0's in the cost!

Nevada - yep, & after about 5 yrs. moved out to Woodland Hills to place that had a horse barn.
Got Herb Malone to tear out the horse stalls then pave the existing barn & build another one using a common wall onto the 1st = 12 car Hudson garage!!!
Sure liked Freddy C., sure tragic death! His wife finished his Italia, think guy in Van Nuys may still have it.
Herb had an Italia too - wife & I spotted it sitting on a used car lot in L.A. in pristine condition exc. for Chevy V8 Hudson dealer had supposedly put in it. We got him a nice Jet engine for it but he liked the V8 performance, left it that way. I believe it's still in L.A. too, out in the Valley.0 -
Lost, I know the feeling. I have done a lot of cars over the years. Often said if I found the perfect car I would quit and never buy another one. I am down to three cars and if I sell one I do not plan to replace it. I do expect that there will always be a driver in the shop. I do the parking lot experience myself. My wife lost the bug years ago... Most likely walking home from a car that had quit....0
