1952 Hornet coupe
Thanks to Russell & Roger for replies: Once again I should have been more speciific with information request: I have contacted Paul and probably will order unit he's offering, however before doing so, I am trying to find out if unit will work correctly with http://www.classicinstruments.com/gaugeselector.aspx? ProductCode=TR62SLF&SeriesCode=TR Following is trouble shooting link http://www.classicinstruments.com/index.aspx?documentID=topmostcommont
As below mentioned, I am using original Hudson fuel tank and sending unit, with new 12 volt wiring harness and Classic Instruments TR62SLF guage's; my problem is whenever I fill up gas tank or even when tank is empty, even with fill tank, gas gauge reading will go to fill and empty during driving? Classic Instruments offers following tech information
http://www.classicinstruments.com/index.aspx?documentID=topmostcommont and even after calling tech rep., he doesn't have answer but will research and try to assist with my problem. Note in pictures my guage center reads Hudson Hornet.
A long time ago on old FORUM members were discussing FORD fuel sending unit for Hudson, does any member have address/web-site of supplier? My car is converted to 12 volt system with 350 Chevy Vortec engine, but still using original Hudson gas tank...Which one fits the 52 Hudson; would need to know what ohm it is 0-30 or 0-60? Also does anyone know correct procedure to retrieve old FORUM archives? Thanks-Ray

I have never seen the Ohm range on the Hudson sender posted. I know its different than any other factory range. Ive heard of guys putting some kind of resistors in line of a larger ohm range sender to get it to read correctly at the gauge and are able to dial it in on the top and bottom end. Perhaps if you disconnected the gauge and hooked an Ohm meter up to the lines of the sender, and read the resistance values at full and empty (easy if its out of the tank) you would know the values and could ask the classic instrument people how to adjust.
If your gauge is bouncy, some gauges have a dampner installed in them to slow down the read rate at the needle so they dont bounce while going over bumps/ turns etc. check the gound connection/ run a ground wire from your tank to the chassis.
or install a new sender from Paul with the mysterious Ohm values corrected by him, or a OEM value (say Ford 0-60) sender and get the classic instruments guys to set your new gauge to it. Is the sender size/ mounting holes of the ford or other compatible/ interchangable with the Hudson sender hole in the gas tank?0 -
Hudson tanks have a baffel in them to stop gas from going side to side. Yours must be rotted away or left out when cleaned. I went to 12 volts and put a resistor on the power wire to gauges, gas and temp and both work perfect. Walt.0
