Clutch wear

Can anyone tell me how much "cork height" should be expected on my clutch plate. I have the engine, trans and clutch out of the car (47 Hudson Commodore Six), and the corks appear practically new to me although the corks are only about 1/16th in height above the metal plate. I don't want to re-install a clutch that's too worn, but I also don't want to invest in a new clutch that has similar cork ht.. If I should be seeing something like a 3/16 to 1/4 inch of cork above the surrounding metal, I will gladly install a new one.

    Corks on a new clutch disc should measure a hair under 1/4" total thickness. Sounds like your disc has more than a little wear on it. Be sure to take measurement after the disc has been out of the car for a day or two.

    You are fine with 1/16" thickness either side. Total thickness is specified to be not more than .210", and a clutch that is bedded in will be around .180" overall.

    Thanks for your replies. I will measure the total thickness of the corks tomorrow. It has been out of the car for over fifteen years, so should have had time to return to the full thickness.
