Temp sending unit

My sending unit went bad on my 55 Hornet, 308. I've tried a couple of different units but they are reading too hot while the care isn't actually running hot, the temp is measuring 180 right at the thermostat but the gauge is pegged on the hot side. I was told the unit is a TS 6464 but that also reads to hot. I would appreciate any help on getting the correct unit number. Thanks in advance. By the way, I've been away for awhile so I didn't recognize the new look, it took me about ten minutes to figure out how to post this

HARRY ARE YOU SURE IT NOT THE GAUGE??
  • It could be the wire between sender and gage is shorted to ground
  • Paul, I am, the gauge was working fine until the radiator blew and I let the car sit for a few monthsm I know, never a good thing to let a car just sit. Anyway, when I got it back together I was not getting a reading so I shorted the wire to see if it was sending and it was. I had to guess at the temp unit number and it wasn't right. I talked with Jason, Bill Albrights grandson and he wasn't sure but he thought the number was ts6464, the standard brand matched that number to the TS4 but it is still reading too high. I'm afraid if it overheated I wouldn't know without a somewhat accurate temp gauge. So the wire is whole but the temp unit I have doesn't seem to have the correct resistence.
