Crankshaft pulley bolt

1 1/8" or 1 1/4". I will be right back after I test with my socket set.........0

I was wrong..........1 1/2". Be advised that a 1/2" drive ratchet will NOT fit onto the socket and fit in between the pulley and the radiator.
I have tried an off-set wrench, that might work.0 -
I pretty much figured there wouldn't be room a ratchet/socket to fit between the pulley bolt and the radiator. A medium size pipe wrench will work, but that's a bit of a crude fit. Thanks for the info Pacemaker500. I'll check with Sears or Harbor Freight on an offset 1-1/2 wrench.0

Oops.....I should have typed "I have NOT tried an off-set.."0

"I'll take that into consideration about the off-set!0

18" Crescent wrench works nicely, if you can borrow one, rather than buying a big ($$$) wrench that you'll never have another use for, unless you work on D8 Cats. I'd stay away from the pipe wrench, to keep from messing up the bolt head.0

most parts stores that have loaner service will loan you a 1 1/2 combination wrench that works fine.0

I bought a Craftsman off set box end during the '60s specifically to turn over Hudson stepdown engines. Expensive then, probably same now; but I have never regretted that purchase. Use it to turn my engines during rebuilds, stored engines and to bring engines to exact timing points.0

I went to Sears yesterday and purchased a Craftsman 1-1/2 combination wrench on sale for $35.99 plus free shipping. I just need the tool for things like adjusting the flywheel for changing clutch fluid or replacing oil pump gears. Won't use it that much, but it'll come in handy and make these tasks and perhaps some others a bit easier.0

Hey Dan,
Cant remember what size mine is on my 36T and my wrench is at my Dads but I went to either Wal Mart or a U Haul (not sure which one was cheaper) and got a trailer hitch ball wrench and it worked great! Quite a bit less expensive than Craftsman, although it wont have a lifetime warranty! Its also long enough to get good leverage to turn engine.
