How do you repair the rust on front lip of hood

The Pacemaker I am restoring has rust along the front lip of the hood. I am not sure I can weld in metal and make it look right. What is the most common way to fix this that does not come back to haunt you later?

  • Most of the hoods with rust damage that I've seen, have rust in the front corners. I think the best and most permanent repair would be to MIG weld a patch. This would not be a hard repair. (of course depending on equipment or access to equipment you may have). I'm sure there are easier methods that may hold up for long periods of time.

Can you post a picture of the area in question? I'm pretty much an expert at this rust repair stuff and depending on the area and size of the problem this would affect my opinion of what to do.

If not just click on the link and send one to me in an email.

  • Why don't you just get a used hood that is not rusted from a fellow club member. There are plenty of them out there and they don't cost an arm and a leg. I've seen them priced from 25 to 200 dollars at Hudson meets. you'll waste more time and money trying to repair a rusted hood.
