Do to the fact that the only major differance between a 232 and a 262 is crankshaft stroke and piston pin location, it is difficult to tell what displacement engine you have.
Yes, all 232's did come stock with 1 barrel carbs, but that could of been changed over the years. If the engine is not in a car and it is a stick shift the clutch disc size 9 inch in a 232 vs 10 inch in a 262. Sooooo the only way to tell for sure is to pull the head and measure the stroke 3 7/8" on a 232 and 4 3/8 on a 262.0
