engine identy for stepdowns
Help with engine identy of stepdown 6s. How do you tell the engine by the writing on the head. No. 801766 and 848 no script on one, another power Dome F 65, another another Power Dome 262, 804621 with screwed on label D121, another power Dome 262, 804621 2cwc, D 308,

You can't tell from the head, as they are all interchangeable. It is very common to find a 262 head on a 308. The 308 has a ridge cast into the crankcase near the oil pan.0

If the head says 308 on it, it's a Hornet head of 1952 or later. Trouble with numbers on the head is they're often the suppliers part number, or the number Hudson told them to put on it, and they typically don't match up with the Hudson part number listings.0
