Hood Ornament '37 Terraplane

After giving the Terraplane a once over, I see that I am missing a few cosmetic elements. Most obvious are the three chrome fins which attach to the red Bakelite hood ornament. Is there a company that makes repro trim pieces for the T or might someone out there have a set for sale? I also need a source for the rubber for the running boards and the corner pieces for the bonnet - any suggestions? I found a side view mirror in the trunk as well as four of the little bumper adornments so I think, cosmetically, she is (almost) complete.

    K-Gap makes the rubber moldings for the runningboard (takes a bit of skill to mount them) and USED to offer the hood ornament (and maybe its component parts). You might want to contact them to find out. However, be advised that certain people have experienced long delays in ordering from K-Gap lately, while others have their orders delivered immediately.

    Thirty-five years ago I needed a hood ornament so actually carved the three fins out of solid brass bars, using a file. Then had them plated, and used welded rod for studs. Gotta say they don't look half bad. Also, had a guy in my shop turn a new plastic "carrot" on a lathe, from my pattern, out of transparent red acrylic rod. That too looked rather handsome, and I have thanked him constantly ever since then.

    Clever fella. Should have moulded the fin and made a whole bunch for the rest of us :D That being said, are all three pieces exactly the same?

    Yes. And, there are several guys in the Club who make castings, who might be persuaded to do some of these, if there was any demand for them. And assuming a decent, usable one could be found as a pattern. If you wanted to ''adopt" a reproduction project like this and were willing to help finance it, then you might be able to do a deal where you'd eventually get your money back, possibly a tiny bit of profit, and (of course) the three new "wings" you desire.

    All three fins are not the same the top one is longer. I had some made for myself a couple of years back I offered them to others but no takers

    Hi there.
    Further to my last post please find attached a photo of all three fins. You will note that the top fin as well as being slightly longer is also thinner and only has one flute the side ones have to flutes. These are made from excelsior metal similat to die cast but you can hand polish them. They have remained shiny for about two years but are tarnishing a little now. I could possibly get some made if you are that keen. I am not sure if the mould still exists. Trevor NewZealand

    Thanks, again helpful. I have downloaded the pic to carry around with me to a few swap meets. If no success, I may follow up with you. Hubby tells me he has access to someone who can fabricate if we are able to get our hands on an original set. When I join HET and local chapter, I may be able to borrow a set...fingers crossed...
