One continuous strip ,runs the entire length of the trim. Fastened to the body with screws about every 6 inchs or so. The trim "Snaps" onto the strip and can be removed without damage if your carfull.
I use a paint scraper as the primary tool ,one that is about 2" wide. And use it to get under the trim at one end and slowly work it off.

If I may add my 1 cent. Gobs of WD40. I would let it soak for a day if you are patient.0

Going on is easy ,snaps on with your fist usualy . Maybe rubber hammer but doubt it, clean the mount rail of rust for best results.

Thats one of the places you see Hudson engineering at work . On a Packard of the same vintage you would have that same trim held on with 4 little clips. Most of the Stepdown cars have retained all thier stainless trim,
