The massive car show and flea market at Hershey, Pa., is right around the corner: October 10 - 13. And as in past years there'll be an H-E-T presence in and around Hershey on those days, and Sunday the 14th as well.

The H-E-T Club's hospitality trailer will provide hot coffee and doughnuts at space RNE-27-28 in the Red Field of the flea market during all four days of the event. (That's down near the old stadium, in the lot that fronts on Hershey Park Drive.) There are also chairs for relaxing, a bulletin board for leaving messages, and a place to temporarily park items purchased in the flea market. New members can join the Club and existing members renew their memberships at the booth.

Many Hudsonites stay at the Quality Inn, 30 miles west of Hershey in Carlisle, at 1255 Harrisburg Pike (I-81 exit 52 "New Kingdom / Middlesex" or 52B "Middlesex", at the intersection of Rte. 11). The motel offers H-E-T members a discounted rate of $72.99 to $89.99 per night, plus tax. Simply call the Quality Inn at (717) 243-6000 and ask for the Hudson club
discount. Nineteen rooms have been set aside on a first-come, first-served basis. H-E-T volunteers will maintain a hospitality room just off the motel’s front lobby on Friday after 4:00 P.M., and on Saturday afternoon and evening.

A Saturday dinner gathering has been planned for Hudsonites near Carlisle as well. Time is 6 PM, location is Hoss' Steak House, 1151 Harrisburg Pike (rte. 11) just south of its intersection with Pennsylvania Turnpike exit 226. A private room has been secured for our group. No reservations are necessary; you simply show up and "order off the menu".

On Sunday morning, Oct. 14, an all-Hudson flea market will take place in the Quality Inn's rear parking lot from 7:00 A.M. to noon. There is no charge to vendors and no pre-registration is necessary. Hudsonites are invited to bring along accumulations of excess Hudson parts to sell.

Volunteers are urgently needed to staff the Hershey booth on all four days of "Hershey", and nice looking Hudsons are needed for display there. Volunteers have the opportunity to meet Hudson enthusiasts from around the world and to recruit new members to the Club. Those who display their Hudsons at the booth can drive right into the flea market in the morning and out at night, saving parking fees and avoiding a long walk to and from distant lots! Older Club members find that volunteering at the booth is an excellent way to "do Hershey", since they're right in the middle of things without any tiresome walking, and can usually hitch a ride directly to the booth from the Quality Inn in Carlisle in the morning, and home at night.

For further information on the booth, or on Hudson events in or around Hershey, please contact Jon Battle at (540) 364-1770 or e-mail him at HETdetailed@verizon.net (delete the HET before sending your e-mail).

PLEASE NOTE PHONE NUMBER -- I GOT IT WRONG AND JUST CHANGED IT!

ALSO, PLEASE NOTE BOOTH SPACE IS RNE 27-28 -- NOT 24-25. Sorry! Chuck Gleydura occupies 24-25-26 and he's right next to us so you can't miss us, either way!

    Jon,
It's been many years since I was able to be at the Carlisle parking lot Hudson swap meet. maybe 1974? Sure brings back some great memories. That was when Hershey wouldn't allow anything built after WWII on the grounds! Boy have times changed.. Carlisle set up a show called "post war 74". I wuz there too. Young folks that attend todays meets don't realize it, but they are makeing memories..Hope they have a ball!
  • Any news from Hershey today?

Are there any Hudsons in the car corral?

Thanks, Ken Ufheil, for running the booth on Wed. (and maybe a good part of Thurs. as well?). This was Ken's first "Hershey" and his first experience staffing the Hudson booth. He was not scheduled to help at the booth, but stepped up to the plate when it was obvious there were no volunteers to open the trailer, and he quickly learned how to recruit new Hudsonites, perk coffee and serve donuts! Thanks also to the others who have helped out at the booth. (Sorry I can't report more, but I'm getting my information secondhand, via telephone, from various sources.)

Just wanted to say that we had a very good four days at the booth in Hershey, and the annual Hudson dinner (this year at Hoss' steak house) had an attendance of 42 people, better than in recent years. The hospitality room was well-patronized and was stocked with a goodly array of food and drink. The flea market was great, as usual, though this year folks packed up and left about an hour early! The weather cooperated throughout the week, with no rain (though the temperatures were a bit lower than normal!). Thanks to all who helped contribute to making this year's events a success!
