Stepdown two speed fan switch
Just wondering if these switches give problems often. The fan turns freely by hand and all looks good. High speed goes well but low speed draws current just barely turns the fan even when using jumper leads to power it.
So, is there a common fix or a need to replace the switch - what's the thought out there?

Could be a bad connection for the resistor on the back of the switch, which provides the reduced current for the fan's LO setting. About all you can do is substitute another switch and see if that fixes it.0

Ernie, I had the same problem with my switch on my 53. It turned well on high( 1st position), but drew amps, & did not turn on "slow". I pulled the switch & took it apart. I cleaned the contacts, & brushed the reostat. Also I placed a better( at least newer) fuse holder in line with a next size gauge wire to the motor. Eureka! it turns, albeit slowly. But, it is of little value while air is being pushed through the cowl vent anyway, ie, while moving. Like Park said, if you have a different switch give it a go. It can't hurt.0

Yes they are a problem , the ressitor generates a lot of heat on the back of the switch. This causes bad connections . However what most owners dont seem to realise is the blower is not for the heater realy . It is only required for the "Defroster" ,just open the cowl vent and turn up the temp control and you will run yourself out of there. As long as you are moving of course,

Thanks for your advise guys. I will take another good look at the switch and the contacts and if that is not successful maybe just do as Roger and just use high for the demister as I would like to keep the original switch - at least it does "half work"!0
