Stepdown Trunk Rubber Weatherseal

I understand there are two styles of rubber used for weathersealing the trunk. Does anyone have an instruction sheet showing what style goes where? I then need to get what I need.

    I would like to know this as well. Mine has two cuts at the hinges and leaks like a civ.

    I purchased from K-Gap my trunk weatherseal for my 50 Pacemaker around 20 years ago and it still works fine. It is to be hoped that K-Gap still has this seal available. You may want to check with them first on the availability of the seal material and then send your money to them. My recent experience with them went fine as apparently the items I purchased were in stock.

    Yes there are two different kinds. The 54 has the gasket on the lid unlike the 48-53 which is on the body. I have had poor luck getting the replacement gasket to seal on two 49's. I got a seal that was intended to seal the doors on a 56 Dodge four door .It was soft but thicker. Leaks stopped. There was about 6" left after cutting and installing. I didn't have to glue it either. It wasa nice tight fit in the channel. (The Dodge owner said it would not let his doors close properly)

    The Hudson weatherseals for trunk and doors are absolutely NOT universal Whitney and other supplier one size fits all JUNK. Oh sure you can glue that stuff in but in almost every case it is too thick and your trunk or doors will not close properly. Hudson engineered specific seals for every application area and they were extruded or molded to their exacting specifications. K-GAP went to a great deal of time and expense to find mint samples of originals and had extrusion dies made and made again until they were correct. Molds same. Multiple suppliers were employed in California and elsewhere.

    Well that is true but what are we to do now that Kgap has evaporated ? ? I have not even seen them at a national meet since Detroit and then they were there on the last day or two,

  • A thicker,bigger seal is glued to the lid to somewhere about 6 or seven inches from the bottom of the trunk going up to the top of lid and then a smaller seal is used for this verticle 6 or 7 inches and the horizonal bottom. I would not rely on K-gap. They will hang you up and take your money,,,....It is a very different set up and if you do not use the correct seals I can see one having opening and closing issues and perhaps leaking.
