This is the info that was used last month for the brake shoes
FRONT--1946-47 DURALAST (aut-zone) #151
VALUECRAFT #151V
FRONT--1948-54 11X2 1/4 BENDIX #263
REAR---1946-47 10X1 3/4 DURALAST (auto-zone) #31
1948--54 11x1 3/4 DURALAST #55
Hope this helps.. Rudy.0 -
Russ, In the event that the numbers given for the front brake shoes are not available, you could also try the Bendix 11"x2' which is a hair narrower but will work. These were used on a lot of old early 50's Chevy trucks. Last number I had was EIS 228 which is a Standard Motor Parts company divison. The 2 1/4 ' witdth shoe was only used on the big Hudsons and 49-54 Pontiacs so it may be getting tougher to find in the exact width. The rear shoes are Ford shoes so there is no shortage there. As Ron said, this is an assumption that the info you are seeking is for stepdowns.0

I went through this with NAPA back in the fall while shoeing the '49 Super Six. NAPA only lists the 1.750" width shoe for both front and back (Which is WRONG for the long hoods and Super Wasps). My NAPA man is an old school parts man and tried every other source under the sun, no good. The shoes I had were relined eventually.
The shop that relined them was run by a man who recognized them to be Hudson front shoes as soon as they were taken in - and did a fine job of relining and recurving them. They are FINE, but it cost $75.00.
NAPA is the place for the rear shoes, or Pacemaker/Wasp front and back (1.750"). $16.00 a pair.
Sad but true

For what it's worth, a fellow in our chapter bought a set of new shoes for his '53 Hornet at a local parts place recently, following the interchangeability listing they had at the shop. When he got the shoes on he could not get the brake drum on over them! He then went to another auto parts store and tried their recommendation, and once again the shoes went on but proved to be too thick to allow the brake drum back on. Off he went to a third shop and -- well, you can guess what happened.
After asking around I was told that the problem is that the replacement shoes (the ones supposedly for Hudsons) don't fit around the Hudson anchor pin. Thus, they protrude too far for the shoes to fit around them. One would have to machine the shoe so it seats correctly against the pin, which (evidently) some of the H-E-T guys do in order to make them fit.
I have seen the # '18's' come up on Ebay once in awhile so one could look there. Or (and this is probably the best if you can find someone to do it reasonably) have your old shoes relined.0 -
I have been down this road before. There are a lot of shoes that are 2 1/4 x 11 but they do not fit. The ones I've tried ride too high relative to the drum and so hit on the top but not all the way around. According to my 1967 Bendix Brake cataalogue (e-Bay, $2) the ONLY shoes that interchange are 49-54 Pontiac and 42-58 Oldsmobile 78 and 98. This is a number 18. I just found a set on e-Bay for $25 plus $11 shipping. While cruising on the internet awhile ago I found a place called "California Pontiacs" and they had the right shoes at good prices. Don't know if they are still around but it's worth a try.0

I have found that most of the replacement shoes (correct for the Hudson) now are relined with thicker lineing like 1/4 inch when the hudson lineing is 3/16.0

You can lower the anchor pin by extending the hole down with a file and then the readily available shoes work fine.0
