Car Pricing in Hemmings

If you look at the auction summaries in the front you will see the notorious Steve McQueen Hornet that has bounced around ebay and other venues for some time. It sold for the astounding price of $61,000, and it was not even in that great of shape.

Yep, they didn't have many nice things to say about the Steve McQueen Hornet that sold at the RM Monterey auction- Condition 4+. Selling price $61,000, average selling price $6,000. "When the (original) interior smells so bad you can't be in the car, for example, its not driveable."

The other Hudson auction report was from Mecum at Monterey- '53 Hornet Convertible, condition 2, brought $190,000! They liked the condition, outside a couple of minor things, and were incredulous at the price (which amounted to over 200K with buyer's premium). They had average selling price at $115,000.

No hook that I could see- just a nice looking 'vert. I guess we all just need to get comfortable with the fact that we're sitting on a gold mine! LOL

It is my belief that Hemmings Motor News does not publish realistic prices. I think they, like others, use auction prices and we all know they aren't realistic or true value prices. Like Tom says about a fool and his money. In times of economic distress, such as we are in now, speculators run rampant (applies to most commodities, like $3.50 a gallon gas for example). Most of these cars, not only Hudsons, are bought only to be flipped in 4 or 6 weeks or so down the line in hopes of finding somebody dumber than they are - and they usually do. In the meantime Uncle Fuzzy, down on the farm, who has a 1938 whatever reads the auction results and figures he's got a gold mine out behind the barn. Trouble is the gold mine has been sitting in the cow pasture behind the barn for 40 years and has sunk into the mud up to the roof line. But, to Uncle Fuzzy, that junker is worth at least a hundred grand going by the $150k a car (much more desireable than Unc's sedan) went for on the auction block.

Stopped getting Hemmings ,as most of the adds are now by dealers. Very few private party adds anymore.

Here in Ont. we are paying $5.46/gal sure glad the old Hudson has overdrive lol

Memphis has stations selling at $3.05 to $3.15. There are some stations that are selling in the $3.20 range. Memphis seems to be lower than most other places.

Samj, you make me feel a bit better here at $1.44 a litre US, in your money that equates to $1.76NZ$,
We can get depending on where you food shop between 4-30 cents discount a litre and has been as high as 50c
quite often 15c, we are currently paying $1.98 were I buy my gas less any discount
not to bad since our govt has put on extra taxes and looking at what you guys are paying

The cost of the low grade here in Utah is $3.58 per gallon. Sounds a bit high to me until others send in the prices on the west coast.
