I was wondering if you have your Clifford intake, headers already,if not order now.I have been waiting a couple of months for mine,,,,,,,time is dragging on0 -
I agree that the return line is important and effective. I installed one per Walt Mordenti's Tech Tips, and it works like a charm.
It sounds like you're going with a nice set-up. You may want to consider two fuel pumps. You can use the electric to 'prime' the system before cold starts, and also as a back-up pump in the event the mechanical one fails. The return line will take away any un-needed fuel and put it back into the tank, so you're not trying to force it into the carburetor when it's not needed.0 -
Hudson308.... where did you find a 6V vane type pump? Or have you converted to 12V?
Thanks,

Hudson308 wrote:Seems to me I bought the 6V vane-type pump at Red Rooster. I've since converted to 12V, but I had a 6V vane-type before I converted. I may even still have it squirreled away somewhere.
Thanks, I'm not familiar with red rooster, but would like to find a 6V vane type. I've rebuilt my walbro diaphram type twice in a few years and its gone out again....new gas seems to eat them up!0 -

I have been, with sucess, using the AMC mechanical pump for abotu a year. These are available from Autozone for about $15.00. I think it was something like an 83 AMC 6 cylinder, if I recall. The pump delivers plenty of fuel for my 50, the only thing I did was had a fuel line made, for about $25.00 to make the awkward end that the fuel outlet to the carb(s) that has to be made.
Hudsondad was able to bend a line and make the bend, but he likes challenging projects, more so than I.
I am not sure if I got mine spaced properly, I think that one more gasket pack would work, but I want to see what happens when Hudsondad starts his 52 Hornet this spring, and how well (or not? ) it works versus mine, then I might elect another spacer....
I hate to pull it apart now, you know the old addage, if it ain't broke....
Oh well, longing for nice weather, and sunny warm days soon to get the hudson out again!0 -
If my calculations are correct, the double spacer utilizes full travel without stressing the lever at either end of travel on the AMC pump. It does fit nice and needs a tight 180 degree bend as the outlet points downward.0

Hudson308 wrote:Yep... as I stated before, the diaphragm types just don't last. I'm pretty sure J.C. Whitney sells the vane type 6V pumps, too. You might even be able to get 'em from Jeg's or Summit.
Nope...Summit & Jegs don't list anything in 6V, and Whitney just lists the AC/Walbro diaphragm style...I'll keep looking and post results, if any.0 -
NAPA has Carter rotary vane pumps in both 6v and 12v versions. They're about $90, but nice reliable pumps, and certainly not as irritating to listen to as the "click-click" type. The box for one of mine (don't recall if it was the 6v or 12v) has numbers F95024 and P4070 on it. One of these is likely the NAPA number.0
