stepdown hood release cable

i have been fiddling around with a used hood release cable, trying to get it freed up, but it finally broke. the inside is intact but still frozen, the outside winding coil is broke. i would like to try to make this one work if i could. has anyone had any luck replacing a section of the outside coiling or even the whole thing? what did you use? seems like i brazed a choke cable several years back but i think it was the inside rod and not coil. should i just lookfor a used one or are they usually played out?

Just buy a new one, you can find them at any auto supply store - they are cheap! You don't want it breaking when you are out on the road somewhere & not be able to open your hood!0

NAPA parts store would be good place to find one. A hood cable is a heavier gauge wire than
a choke cable and NAPA should have a variety to choose from. Not sure if Auto Zone would. Advance Auto no, (I work for Advance) I have never seen one (universal) listed..0 -
thank you for the offer Ken U-Tx. i got the oreilly one and it was almost the same and it was only $7. i actually drove off my original handle anddrilled and tapped it for a set screw to hold the handle on the new cable. i also filed down the threads to fit the bracket. worked great, i still need to adjust the upper part on the hood to close smother. i just can't believe i messed around with trying to free up this old one for so long. wonder what else i have done like that on this car.
