I was speaking with my good friend Glen Johnson today and he mentioned that he remembered an Essex roadster pickup that was at the 1981 National meet in Milwaukee. He found the photo's today and now I need to run up to his place and check out the photos. He tells me that this pickup (much like the one in Butler's book for 1923) was used around the Hudson factory for parts and shuttle. Any one else that was at Milwaukee have photo's of this truck or perhaps where it might be today?

OK, I guess no one kept their program from the 81 meet? I stopped by to visit with Glen Johnson and he provided me a look at the program. I have attached a copy of the two roadster pick up's that were in the program. They are both factory photo's and the one (1923) was in Butler's book. The 1927 was not. Alex, my friend, you let me down....

Ah, but gently, Brownie, gently. :D I do not recall saying there was a 1927 Essex pickup in Butlers book. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!!!!!!

Alex, we are talking apples and oranges. My point was that if there ever was a truck before 1929 you would have known about it. Especially, if it had shown up in print somewhere. I would have thought that you would have seen this photo at one time or another in your viewing of the stacks of documents that you review. Perhaps, I have added to your knowledge base?

If it's in Butler's, Alex has seen it, I assure you. I believe we have even had a conversation about this in the past. However, one converted car (maybe two) does not constitute an actual production-based "truck" (although, it is quite handsome).

This is the only 27 Essex truck in the HET registry.

Here in NZ, I know of one complete (& almost completed restoration) 29 Dover truck & the same owner has another in pieces.
