well i have the lions share of the wiring done on my 53 hornet. i still need to do the dash gages and lights. i have several questions i wasn't sure of from the wiring diagram. the wiring was completly gone or disintegrated so i have nothing but the diagram to go by.
1. i found a small light socket with one wire, but another tab with a wire soming off the outside or base of the socket. is this for the generator light? is the outside wire gust a ground? i can get a pictue if need be.
2. the temp gage and fuel gage show a loop between the inner two posts. is this just a wire conecting them? it shows a wire comming from pass side of the gage voltage regulator to drivers side post of temp gage so does the fuel gage just piggy back off this and that is what the loop is?
i have a aftermarket manual oil pressure and temp gage hooked up now, but would like to go back to orig gages if they work and i can. while i am doing the wiring i want to at least make up the wiring and connections to hook up later if need be. thanks, stacy k

HR, you're cotrrect on the "loop" wire. Power is delivered to a terminal on the temp gauge, then the short jumper wire ("loop") carries power over to the gas gauge.

On the oil and gen lights, those bulb sockets are readily identified by their having two wires at the outer end of the socket. The wire going into the center of the socket is the power supply, coming from the ignition swith "accessory" position, and the other wire in each case goes to the respective "sender," that is, the oil pressure switch and the A or ARM terminal on the voltage regulator.

thanks for the info. i am going to check my parts cars this weekend to see if i can for sure get the correct sockets for oil and gen lights. i will be glad to get this rewire finished.

one of my parts cars had the sockets, so i snagged them yesterday. i finished making the gen light circut. i have a 6 volt alt, same one a Lee O, i forget the guys name. i hooked it up to one of the spade terminals on the rear of alt. i also have a aftermarket switch. it doesn't have a acc lug so i just hooked it up ignition or coil lug. i also don't think i used the correct bulb. i used bulb # 55, like most of the dash lights. i don't remember or can't find the listing of the correct bult size. i have also bypassed the voltage reg but left it in place for looks. i used a nylon washer and machine screw, on the voltage reg as a "connection place" for the orig style wires i made for the gen that was in place that i thought i was going to use.
the gen light came on with the key off. i don't understand how it could have any juice with they key off unless it was coming from alt. with so much stuff that is different from stock i reall don't know what's going on. anyone have any ideas.

Try connecting the GEN light wire to the other spade terminal on the alternator.

i tried, and the light won't come on at all. i did check and the one marked "R", i believe, is hot all the time just like the batt post on alt. the other terminal marked "F" is not, but i didn't try to start it. the light will come on with key on "on" position when wire is grounded to anything like if the wiring is touching the outside of the alt. however if i plug it into the other spade terminal nothing when key is on.

well, i started the beast today and i found out some stuff on the alt. it has to be the way i have it wired. i checked and the terminal that was hot went cold when it started and started producing a charge. so i think if i run the wire to batt terminal thru the ignition switch it will work. i just have it hooked up to the voltage reg post just as a connection, but the voltage reg is not working or hooked up, like in picture above. i thought i was done with the wiring. >:)
by the way, on a side note, my temp gage works! i ran the wiring and had my fingures crossed and it works great. had sat for who knows how many years, amazing.
