My 3D 1949 Hudson

I have been searching for awhile now trying to find some reasonably priced artwork to use to show what my car is going to look like when assembled for motivation and getting sponsors onboard!
Last week while searching the interenet I found this site 3DAutos http://www.palat.com.br/cars.html
This Cool site shows many different vintage cars rendered in 3DMAX and towards the top of the page are 4 different 1949 4dr Hudson Commodore renderings in differing colors and views.
So I sent Dan Palatnik (the site owner) an email and asked if he would do some renderings of the way I envision my 49 to be. I told him what I wanted changed from his original drawings and here is a sample of the renderings he is going to do for me for a very reasonable cost - and he takes payment through paypal for those so inclined!
Dan is a great guy and easy to work with. As the car evolves and changes I'll have hime update the renderings and probably do some other projects like some interior shots and possibly an small mpeg movie!
If you have a 4 door and want something like this Dan said he can do these up pretty quick. If someone wants a different year, model, like a 2-dr it would cost more money for the time to do the wireframes.
So - What was changed in this picture from stock? IE what is missing or altered? There are 4 things pretty noticeable from this view...

That's easy, Dan. First, antenna has been removed. Second, Vent window has been taken out and single piece of glass that fits the whole front door. Third, WWW tires that have whitewalls much wider than stock and lastly, Full Moons.
Also, don't know the Commodores as well, but the drip edge: are those chrome on the Commodores? If so, then this has been changed. Next up, it looks as though the stance has been lowered, even from this angle, but that could just be me. And finally, a question: Has something been changed to the rocker panel area or is it just the picture? They definately "stand out" too much, i.e., too bright? And for that matter, the color is not stock. Don't think satin black was an option.
If this is what your car is gonna look like, though, VERY COOL! Are you done, yet?
Can't wait to see it.

Hi Dan!
Let's see...
Full wheel discs
No antenna
Front wing vents removed
Tinted windows
No fuel filler door
Windshield visor added
More?

Wonderful wonderful rendering. The car is very clean and certainly shows clearly the remarkable shape and line of the design. When completed your ride will be super. I've looked at all the publications that I have and on the web, but I still do not get a good picture of the rocker mouldings. Can you post a couple of pictures, please of the actual trim pieces? Is the moulding a wide stainless strip that is usually painted in the middle? Or are there multiple strips that make up the curves and flats?
Thanks in advance,
Dan0 -
OK - I didn't see the fuel door was missing!
1 Antenna Removed
2 Lowered 2"
3 No Door Locks
4 Moon Disc covers
The rendering isn't perfect - hence some of the questions on the rocker panels. The rocker panels should be curved not flat as in the rendering...
The drip rails were not finished with bright trim (ss) originally
Those do look like 4" WW tires and I believe the Hudson came stock with 3"
But really until the car is done the rendering is close enough for me! If you have an artist (a.k.a. Chip Foose or someone else) do a drawing they don't draw in the correct perspective anyway and this was about 3000x cheaper than having an artist do the drawing - and with 3DMax once the wire frame is done modifications are pretty simple!
I'll have the rest of the renderings sometime next week and I'll post them on my website!0 -

Hudsons came with multiple stainless trim configurations and from what I hear are pretty hard to come by. The rendering shows a couple of mlds but these are not correct - but I don't care 'cause for now its meant to be a concept and the finished products rarely look exactly like the concept pictures.
"hudson autmobiles" Byron D. Olsen ISBN 1-58388-110-7
This coffe table book has some nice pictures of factory original stepdowns that could give you an idea of what the trim options were.
I won't be running the rocker trim on my car until I can afford to piece together a full set...0 -
Dan, thanks for the quick reply and information on the moulding trim. I'll try and track down the suggested book. I find your site so valuable. It gives me courage to try and tackle my own project.0
