Transmission Switch

I need a new Shaft Rail Switch for my single lever OD transmission. It is the one that mounts on the the driver's side of transmission . It has only one wire attached to it. Mine functions but leaks terribly due to the internal shaft seal being deteriorated. This switch is only used with VM and DM. (single lever) The part number is 304026 Not to be confused with the Reverse lockout switch which has two wires. It looks similar. For now, I have removed the switch and have a blockoff plate on it to prevent leakage.
Any help would be appreciateed.
Thanks, dave

Dave, Al Saffrahn does rehab work on such things ... maybe he has a good one or can put a new shaft seal in yours. You're a brave soul to tackle ressurecting that Drivemaster system!

    Thanks Ken:
I was just fishing to see if an NOS would show up.. Since i didn't get lucky.. I repared the old one. The two rivets that hold it together are hollow and the two screws that hold it on go through them. I didn't think I could get hem off and be able to use them again..so.. I managed to dig all the old seal out with a dental tool.. Saturated the switch with brake clean to get rid of all the grease and crud. Found a rubber washer in my junk drawer that had the same ID as the switch plunger. trimmed it's OD and worked it into the switch. Then sealed the outside with a dab of Black RTV. Looked good, so i remounted it with a new cork gasket. Tipped the transmission over on the side and let it sit over night. No leak! Since there is no pressure in there, I suspect it's going to work just fine.

I have everything I need for the DM installation EXCEPT the mounting brackets for an eight.. Both mine are for the stepdown 6 cyl. I wonder if pre-stepdown 6 head mounting brackets would be the same? What I would LOVE to have is a picture of the DM mounted on a stepdown 8. I don't know what all I am missing. I suspect I will not be able to use my oilbath air cleaner either. Looks like it will interfere.. Pictures sure would be helpful.
  • You are right about the air cleaner . I dont know what the differance is but in the parts book they have seperate numbers,

    Dave,
Only difference is length of tube that allows it to clear dm UNIT. I am sure yours could be extended, once you find out length. I sent you a few pictures showing dm on 8. I will check box of parts we removed and see if there is anything you can use.
