Edmunds Head On E-bay
I know there was someone looking for a 308 performance head. There is one on e-bay now. Has a repairable crack on it. Seems like a decent deal to me... Niels

I just "bought it now". Seemed like a pretty fair deal to me also. Given the price of some regular 308 aluminum heads that have been cut beyond a serviceable thickness - the Edmunds actually seemed cheap.
I'm not too crazy about that combustion chamber, I hope its really thick like the Edmunds manifolds.

I saw one like that at the Turkey Rod Run& swap meet in Daytona thanksgiving
weekend. Very similar crack except it ran all the way around the side and took off
across the deck surface. The guy had lots of intake manifolds and a few flathead
heads so I'm sure hoping its not the same one because its sure not described as such.
Man it would be a pretty piece all shined up but like you I wasn't impressed with the
combustion chamber. The "ledge" between the valve pocket and cylinder is a straight
drop where the Clifford has a nice "ramp" transistion. Don't know how much difference
it would make but I've been racing 3.5" X 3" briggs&stratton motor for 8 yrs,making
50 hp (on alcohol) @ 8800 rpm  but the chamber looks very similar
to the Clifford.
Not knocking the Edmunds,I wish I had one and could play with the
chamber. My Clifford head was cracked also and am having great luck
with the repair.0 -
I might recommend that you put (full, not helicoils)) steel threaded inserts in the spark plug holes. Makes for a much stronger and gall proof thread. I did that to my Hud 8 head and it works very well.
BTW Edmunds did make a 8 cylinder finned head and I know someone who has one but I have never seen one on engine.0 -

Unfortunately for me, the head described as being at the Turkey Run, was the one I bought on e-bay. Cracked all the way around from the spark plug hole to the combustion chamber. I had hoped the description was truthful, that the crack was just "on the top" - turns out it wasn't.
I'm not going to whine about it. Its my special doorstop now. The pitiful part is that the head has not one fin damaged and other than the extensive crack - it is really nice disregarding the crack. I'd guess if you thumped it really good upon the floor - you'd have a two piece head.
So, heads up on the e-bay seller "oldbold97" descriptions are only given in enough detail to make the sale. If any other Hudson goodies pop up by this seller - make sure you ask alot of questions before smacking the buy-it-now button. A mistake I seldom make, but I really wanted an Edmunds head.
Live and Learn - at least I didn't give $500 for it.

These are the only negative feed backs that this guy has had in over 175 sales. I would imagine he would be a good guy and take it back. Even if you had to pay the shipping one way. It would be better than a door stop.
Remind him that you have found this add on the classic car and hudson club web site and it has been seen before at a swap meet and the condition was noted then and too cracked to repair, and that bad feed back would be far reaching and very damaging.

Damn, that SUX! Man if I had just seen that link here a couple hours
earlier I could have given you the heads up.That magic marker arrow
on the top of the head was making me pretty sure that was the one I'd
seen at Daytona. Still,I believe a repair is possible just couldn't convince
myself that it was worth the time, effort and$$. Thats why I passed at
Daytona,I didn't even ask for a price. This guy had 50 or more vintage
intakes like 3x2's 4x2's 6x2's 2x4's etc. for old Olds,Y block *ords etc. etc.
No way in hell that you could miss that crack with an arrow pointing it out
and plainly visible to the naked eye going all the way around and across the
deck. What a fraud.I believe there's a special place in hell for people like that.
Still I'd have the urge to polish her up, she'd make a
beautiful wall hanging. Cylinder heads as art(how bad do you
have it?) :cool:Well at least all of us here could appreciate it...0 -
Thanks Twin-H, I had hoped that the arrow pointing to the crack was just to show it was cracked on the TOP (as the description said it was only the top, where indicated) - not all the way around. Alas, it is. I think it is fixable, but it will take alot of work to do it right.
They are nice looking, I'm not really all the crazy about the chamber since I've seen one. I suppose I'll be finding out how much material is in the casting to change that.

Husker nation was also looking for one here also0
