Reinstalling DM on my 49 8 cyl

As mentioned on another thread, I decided to try and reinstall the DM on the car. I obtained two drive Master assemblys only to find that they are both from 6 cyl engines. although most parts are identical, some are not. My car still had the complete wire harness and dash switch. that is where the good luck ended. The lower mounting bracket for the shifter rods etc had been cut off with a hack saw. I managed to graft it onto one of the 6 cyl brackets. I cleaned and checked all the other attching parts, them painted them. I don't know what finish was used originally, but used what ever "rattle cans" I had. I haven't worked on the upper portion yet. maybe after Christmas. I want to thank all those that helped out with parts and pictures. They REALLY helped!. Questions keep popping up.. Like why does one of my setups have flat prong plugs and the other has the round pin as used on my car. perhaps a 1950 ? I have attached a few pictures of the progress ..One is the comparison of what bracket parts were left on my car and the 6 cyl version. Then a shot of the completed conversion after painting. The third is a picture of the two different plugs.

According to my Parts Manual, the 1948 - 1949 Selector Valve is a different part number then the 1950 - 1951 Selector Valve.

I guess that 'splains it I would have thought they would have dropped the DM in 51 since they had the HydraMatic. But may have offered both. The plastic connector sure is more modern than the round pin plug type.

I am getting close to having it all together. Dave Sollon and others have been very helpful. I really appreciate this involvement. Presently I need a rubber boot or bellows that covers the clutch servo piston. Also the bracket that mounts the clutch servo assembly to the eight cylinder engine. The main mounting bracket is the same for six and eight, but each has it's own adapter bracket that attaches with two bolts to the lower servo bracket. I don't know where that bracket attaches to the engine. Water jacket as does the shift servo on the bottom? perhaps the cylinder head? Attached are a couple pictures of the clutch servo from both sides. the two lower bolts are what attach it to the missing part.
  • Is it the rubber bellows that shows in you picture that you need? I have those repro. Rod Hudson
