anyone know what works for gas door spring?

my car and none of my parts car have a gas cap door spring. anyone know of anything that will work for the spring? since i don't have one i don't even know what they look like.

    They sell them at K-gap for $5 for Step downs.

    There is actualy a Left & Right (or top & bottom spring) not sure why they sell just the one so if you cant make it fit try the othe side.

    I have a few , would have to see if I have a pair or not .However either one would be better than none at all. A single one will somewhat hold it shut,

    sounds good. i would rather get a original than a repop anyway. let me know what you find. no big hurry, just whenever you get around to it. my door stays shut pretty good, but i would like it to have the spring if i can. thanks, stacy

    I made my own springs from a similar sized coil. Just shaped with a pair of pliers.

    thanks Geoff and Alex for the suggestions. i wasn't exactly sure of the original size, since mine were both missing. i am just going to get some original ones, that way i can sleep better at night knowing i have "true" hudson springs. :)) i did really enjoy the video about making springs. i have never seen that before. stacy k

    Rambo of Rambo's Ride fame made his own as well and detailed it on this forum a few years back. Don't forget you need to temper those springs before they'll work properly.

    i always thought springs were made from "spring steel". i buy steel from a shop in town here a lot and he has a section of spring steel. maybe the guitar strings in the video are made of spring steel. anyway it was some good info. i will try to search for rambo's post. thanks, stacy

    Good hardware and engineering shops usually have a selection of both compression and tension springs. I usually find what I need there, and just modify them to suit. A good source of small springs are the old mechanical cash registers and adding machines, but these have largely disappeared nowadays. I used to work for Burroughs, and their machines are loaded with all manner of small springs.

    your right Ken i may have a case of that spring fever. i did get the set on, i think it's correct. it seems to work correctly. shame i don't have the orig tank back in yet, no reason to open the door.
