Question about door panels.

I would like to replace the door panels on my 36T. What is a good panel 'backer' type material?
And where would one get it?
Seems like mine are a kind of thick, dense cardboard, and would need something similar. The panel attachment brackets will need to be removed from the old ones and riveted to the new ones.
Thanks,
Jeff

Can't recall what I used. You could look at 1/8" thick "Masonite" or similar hardboard.
  • Contact Perfectfit in Portland, Ore @ 800 652 5202 or Auto Interior Products in Ocala Fla. @ 855 732 4485. The stuff is called panel board.

    FYI
In the past Ive used 1'8 Panel Board from Lowes then cut with sabre saw. Now im using Waterproof panel Board from PerfectFit like Hudzilla and I got the Foam from Your Auto Trim Store www.yourautotrim.com. Its cheap aprx $7 per and cuts with tin snips. I use Gel Contact Glue from Lowes. They have 3M Spray Contact too....

The black waterproof door panel material is fairly common. For example, Restoration Specialties and Supply Co. has it in 32" X 48" X 3/16" Sheets for $13.25 and in 39"X65" for $22. They also have the painted cowl board (goes against the inside of your firewall) in 39" X 65" X 3/16" for $22. They attend lots of big flea markets like Hershey, but this stuff could be available at your local car upholsterers too. It's not hard to transfer the various clips to this material and in fact Restoration Specialties also sells a lot of the type of spring clips you often find holding these door panels into place. Their catalog is at http://www.restorationspecialties.com/2011_Catalog_Web.pdf
