exhaust manifold elbow question

I know that the 51-54 Twin H manifolds are different from those used in the 55-56 308 engines. But what about the exhaust manifold collector (stock, single-exhaust pipe)? I have one off a 52 Twin H exhaust manifold. Will it fit the 55-56 setup? Thanks for your help. ArtS

NO IT WILL NOT FIT 51 TO 54 TWIN H AND SINGLE BARREL EXT.MANAFOLDS ARE DIFFERENT THAN 55,56 SINGLE OR TWIN H EXT MANAFOLDS NOTHING WILL INNER CHANGE
  • The 55-56 had moved the ballance tube from the outside to inside. I suppose that changes everything a little. Thats the easy way to tell what version you have, I have posted photos of each type,

Art you may realize this but worth noting in this discussion is that the 55-56 intake will not mate to a 48-54 exhaust manifold. Also, if you are transissioning from one generation to the other a little tweeking of the exhust pipe will be necessary as the flange angle and orientation changes.

Tallent R, what brand is your tubular header?? I want to put true duals on my '52 Hornet, and I'm considering cutting and welding on my cracked exhaust manifold to make it a dual outlet. I did it before on a Rambler 232 and it worked well. But if the header fits well, that would certainly make more power!!! Are the headers readily available??
