Starter Identification

I need help Identifying a starter on my '53 Hornet. I replaced my '53 308 with a '55 308 (both with hydramatic) I had the starter rebuilt to 12V and installed it, but the nose was too short to engage the flywheel. I am guessing that the '55 starter has a shorter nose since the crankshaft is shorter. The number on the Hudson tag reads MC 16306. The numbers on the tag are a little hard to read though. I am sure about the 6306 in the number. Also on the end on the starter is cast into nose PS326. Any help identifying would be great, as I would like to sell the starter.

Thanks,

Rich Lee

I'm a little confused. Are you selling the re-built starter from the '53 308? If so, I would be interested as our '52 has been converted to 12V. Can't help with the identification part, but someone here will be able to. You can e-mail me at HETchiltonsNDC@msn.com (drop the HET).

You can put the rebuilt parts in the earlier case and it will work fine. The 1955 short nose starter will not work on earlier engines.

    Russell,

Sorry for the confusion. I believe that the starter is for a '55 with hydramatic. It came with my '55 308 motor. I had it rebuilt to 12V and put in my '53, but it would engage the flywheel. I'll check to see if an earlier core I have can be converted. If it can I would be intersted in selling.
