I am old enough to have actually been at the tracks and seen Herb in action. A well deserved award..Too bad he won't be there. RIP

Cotton Owens is another who earned his place in the HOF. I remember a story Richard Petty related in an interview. Seems Cotton brought this Dodge to the track - back in the day when the cars actually looked like what was on the street. Everybody agreed it just didn't look right - and it out ran everything on the track. The answer came when NASCAR put the templates on it - as Richard said "He could have run that car thru the templates wide open and not touch a one!!" What Cotton had done was to build a car 7/8ths the size of a normal stocker. Not as much fun now-a-days since NASCAR has rule booked all the initiative out of the sport. But then again there aren't any mechanics the like of Smoky Yunic, Cotton Owens and Red Vogt

  • Good news about Herb. A interesting sidenote. Someime ago there was a discussion about mirrors for Hudsons from the factory or after market. The mirror on Herbs car is exactly like the ones I have and cant find that were in Hudson boxes.

Yep, I saw that and saved the picture for future projects.
