Progress on the 308.

Finished taking the engine apart today. I mic'd the crank and it looks to be standard, actually looks good. The rod bearings look a bit warn but not too bad. The pistons seem to have wear on two sides only, not sure why though. I will take everything to the machine shop to have it cleaned, bored, new cam bearings, new valve guides and seats ground and valves ground. The shop said about a week to complete it. It will take me a good week to clean all the parts and paint them. I am attaching a few pics. Richie.

    Do you have to bore an engine when restoring it?

    Only if it is worn beyond normal limits.

    Richie, do you still need a 308 head? I have it loose but haven't had time to remove the gasket, inspect, etc etc..

    Dont forget to run a flushing hose in the front of your block to get the unwanted stuff out;;.
    I was able to run a 1/2 inch copper pipe with a hose connection on one end. You may want to put a couple of small holes to help do the flushing. Like the work around the valves. About 30 to 36 inches, too cold to go measure. I'm still taking treatments. Hope things work out for you. Which car is this going in? Thanks, Bob P

    Bob, I hope you are doing well, stay strong !! I will flush it out and it will also be vatted at the machine shop. I will modify the water distribution tube also as per drawing from this site. This is the engine out of the 7C we bought last Jan. Thanks for the reminder to flush the block. Richie.
