I have seen pictures. Put on your rose colored glasses before you go. The price is down though.

    That bad, huh?
  • I have talked to him as well, a very nice fellow. The car has amazing history. All the crome is done, he clames, about $3500 worth of it, Its hard to tell from all the photos he sent me, what the car's condition looks like today. And its on the wrong side of the country for me.
Would love to here what you think about the car Jon, if you go look at it.

I'll head over there after lunch. I'll check the chrome. If anyone has an interest in this, and wants me to check anything particular about the car, I'll be happy to.

I'm assuming this is a special body so I'll look for a builder's plate of some sort. If too far gone, this car might be an excellent source of scarce parts for the restoration of a similar limousine.

Wasn't the trim nickle plated on the 1920's cars. I know chrome plating started sometime in the 1920's but I was under the impression that Hudson's didn't start until the early 1930's. But, then, what do I know.

by '29 all exterior was chrome, some of the interior pieces were nickel, like the instrument surround. Probably same in '29 altho bumpers then didn't come on the cars, not sure about '27.

Just got back from visiting the car and was impressed. Took a lot of photos. Will upload them tonight, to the Hudson Gallery. The car was used in Nepal and was brought back to the States in the 1970's, I'm told, by being disassembled and carried by hand over the mountains (familiar story; Bill Pratt's '32 convertible came back from the same country in the same way, I believe). There are three loose leaf binders full of original photos, letters, repair receipts (in Nepalese!), and so forth. Lots of spare parts; NOS tires, rechromed headlights, bumpers, trim and radiator shell; Newly woodgrained dash and interior trim. Body solid, wood is all solid, car is complete. Now sitting outside under a tarp but has obviously been garaged its whole life. "Stay tuned", as they say....

Jon, I'm anxious to see the current condition. I got pictures of it a year ago. It has no top, and it was outside with no tarp. Maybe the tarp comes and goes.

Frank, the tarp may come and go but the car is solid as a rock. Might even run (it was supposed to be running a couple years ago; I could believe it, looking at the engine today). Only "rust" issues are a few patches of heavier than normal surface rust on fenders that are otherwise undented. Body is aluminum, of course, so no rust there.

Twenty-nine photos of the car (as of January 30) are now posted at http://hetclub.org/index.php?option=com_simgallery&Itemid=657&func=viewalbum&aid=34

Jon - I'd like to see this photos but don't understand all the rigamarole required with the Club website. I type in my user name & password & get the front page, then it says you have to register, go back to your e-mails and use some new user name & password; why is all this required, I've already done this?????
Is this something one is going to have to do everytime you wish to access the "inner sanctum" of the Club website?????????????

I'm sorry you are having difficulty logging in.

If you don't see your name under CLUB LOGIN, you're not registered. (Remember, the H-E-T website is new, and any past usernames and passwords you used at other Hudson sites, won't work anymore.)

It's not hard to register and after that, your computer will probably "remember" your password each time you return to the H-E-T website -- unless you have specifically disconnected the feature.

    Ready?

Go to the homepage at www.hetclub.org.

On the right side of the page, click on the blue link that best describes your condition: non-H-E-T member, or H-E-T member. These links lead to instructions on how to register.

What it tells you (if you're a current H-E-T member): if your e-mail address is currently registered with the Club, then click on CREATE AN ACCOUNT, fill in the stuff (invent a username and password, etc.) and type in the e-mail address you have registered with the Club. The click REGISTER.

You'll receive an e-mail with a link you click on. When you've done that, you're taken to the homepage. Sign in with your new username and password, and -- voila! -- Bob's your uncle!

Problems? E-mail not on file with the Club? Just e-mail membership@hetclub.org . Kind, caring people will take you by the hand, and graciously lead you from your drab, wretched life to a bright and wonderful new world of virtual existence! And, it's all MUCH quicker & easier than, say, replacing the rings on a 308, or getting a frontal lobotomy.

I agree with Roger, the revamped site seems to be very reliable and easy to navigate. I logged in a few weeks ago with the "remember me" box checked and it has worked great. It's worth another try, as frustrating as it may be I think you'll like it once you get logged in.

Back to the original post... That is a very good looking project. It looks complete (there needs to be correct horns and in the right place) and perhaps only the support wood needs to be replaced. If I were looking for a project I would be right on it. I do think the price is a bit high but if it has the documented history it might be right?

I am having no problem with the new website. I think it is a great improvement over what we had and we are in the early stages of using it.

My Dad just took one of these apart. Looks to be the same type car. Didn't have the front to back seat divider, but it was sorta' missing that area of the car so who knows if it was ever there.
I also think it was all nickel plating.

Also, the aluminum underneath/on top of that wood might not rust. But it will corrode (spelling on that, I know, I know, the web site people are working on adding spell check, lol). It will rot next to that wood, get thin.

Brownie, this looks like something you could handle. But it makes me nervous. :)
