S10 Standard Adapting

Just got off the phone with a member that's having an S10 Floor shift Trans adapted to his 262 Motor. The person's doing the work are Father & Son Machinist's with a passion for adapting modern equipment into older vehicles. They have already adapted an S10 Trans to their Plymouth flathead 6 along with a few other odd combo's.... They decided to utilize the Hudson clutch & bell h'sing with an adaptor to the 5 Spd then machine the input shaft to fit. Its work in progress but seemed confident it will work out. I'll post more later....
There are GM Standard Conversions out there. A friend seen a 4 or 5spd at a car Show in Fl, a Pacemaker cpe with a Turbo had oneat the Gettysburg Nationals, and (think) Randy Maas has done a couple...

I've got an S10 T5 that I was going to put in my car, but Wilcap quit making the adapters, and there were some other problems. But using the Hudson clutch setup would certainly solve a lot of the problems- Pretty much just a plate to adapt the T5 to the Hudson bell housing, and an input shaft to match. I would be very interested in having them do one for me, as well- especially after the R & D is done!0

I am now a distributor for wilcap and will have kits in stock for the automatic in one week. This last summer Russ & I prepared a race car using the S-10 world class trans. that we sent to England to compete at Goodwood. It was a learning experience and worked out very well. I may consult with Larry at wilcap and tell him what I learned and see if we can get a kit going after I get my current project- a hi performance street motor thats going to switzerland.

That's good news, Randy. I think the key to it is a lash-up that doesn't require machining anything in either the transmission or engine (I have a '51 308 engine, which I understand has the crankshaft end machined for a pilot bushing, regardless of whether it was originally a stick shift or Hydramatic car). A guy can send someone the bell housing to work on, but it becomes much more complicated if you need to do anything to the engine or transmission. Will look forward to seeing what happens.0
