Not to nit pik ,just to make sure my understanding is correct..Is the stainless trim above the windshield correct for 51? It doesn't appear on the sedans of '51 vintage.

No, the stainless steel trim first appeared onthe 1952 convertable models. Actual first use was on the 1951 Hollywood - but not any of the other Commodore or Hornet models

Sorry, I stand corrected, you are right. I no longer own 51 cv and forgot. =((

the hood ornament does not have a triangle on top & in the side view, if it is a Commodore, there should be a "COMMODORE" nameplate below the molding on the front fenders & I don't see one - could this be a '51 Super Six???

Very possibly a dressed up Super Six. However, Hudson did not use the dual range Hydramatic until mid 1952. Also please note the side molding - they appear to be aftermarket aluminum pieces with a plastic insert (in maroon color). If it is as cherry as they are trying to make us believe, I'll bet the dash board is definitely the color of the Super Six model rather than that of the Commodore & Hornet.

Maybe a Super, with senior car trunk trim and taillights.

The guy must not be too serious about selling with those 4 measly exterior pics. No interior, engine, etc. I guess he thinks someone is going to shell out 4 large, or more, based on those tiny pictures!

I requested more pictures per the ad when the ad appeared and have received nothing as of today.

You know, there's a '50Comm on another post, on another E-Bay listing with twice as many photos and it's under 1K. It always surprises me too, when these folks are asking for so much money and can't present the car properly. O.k., there's a note that says to e-mail this person and you'll get more pics, but that apparently doesn't work, either.

I, too, requested more pictures with no response. I also checked out the detail behind the 100% positive feedback with interesting results.

Another item that makes me think it's a Super: The top irons are not chrome-plated. All Commodores and Hornets had them (including the ones that show in the pic).

And like Jerry mentioned, those plastic trim pieces on the side of the car, who does that?? Like somebody that doesn't want to go the distance to do a proper restoration, but wants the big bucks from the sale, I'll warrant.

RL et al - a few quotes come to mind: "There's a sucker born every minute & I'm here to take him", P. T. Barnum, and "Don't give a sucker an even break", W. C. Fields ~

    Tom-

Yes, you are right, we are probably "picking apart" his car. I suppose my main purpose is to make sure that anyone who is looking to buy this car and is frequenting this board for information, that they are well-informed, particularly when an item might or might not be what it is being as advertised.

Especially noteworthy concerning Hudson convertibles and their escalating "value", great care needs to be taken when determining the true "forensics" of a given car. I have had several Hudson friends/enthusiasts buy the step-down convertible, only to later find out that what they had was not what they thought they were getting.

Certainly with 4 very small pictures, it is difficult to ascertain the quality of any vehicle, which, is why, I too e-mailed his son for additional pictures only to receive no response.

My suggestion to a potential buyer; Call the guy and ask him to get his son on the computer and answer e-mails...and send the pics wanted...Michel

Seems like if someone was interested they could call and ask for the serial number.
If it's a Commodore serial number , a trip to inspect it would answer most questions.
There are several HET members in Illinois that might be willing to inspect it.
Looks like a nice car that is priced where the market says it should be. No Rust Ever?

I called and spoke with the owner, who arranged for his son to send additional pictures. If someone wants to see them, I will be happy to forward them.

This car has been re-listed. It clearly was not originally a Commodore. Super 6? Pictures show a nice driver but not a show car. Any information or advice would be appreciated.
  • I am interested in this car, because I've always liked Hudsons but never had one, and this one looks very nice as a driver. I found this site through my brother, who lives near the Hostetler Hudson Museum, and uses a number of their restoration craftsmen for his wood boats, Porsche, etc.
I appreciate your comments, having been burned on a number of cars that weren't as represented. It is all in the knowledge, which is what's fun to me about the hobby because I'm an original car lover. I'm getting psyched to get an original Hudson!
Hollywood, if you would sent me a copy of those photos I would appreciate it. Haven't heard a word from the son, who must be in the car carrying business (by the name on the email) and swamped with more important stuff to do.
I'll be in Chicago on business in two weeks or so, and could go out to look over the car if it's worth seeing in person. In return for the help, I'll report back to the group about what I find.

@Hollywood: How about posting the pictures here on this site. Everybody would be able to see it and comment if needed. Thanks, Michel.
