1933 Terraplane Windshield frame fabrication, with PICS!
Today I received my brand new Windshield frame and glass, with weatherstrip ready to install, including hardware, for my '33 Terraplane.....just as you would have ordered and received a new assembly back in the 1930's, from Hudson Motor Company. Very lucky to have talented fabricators nearby who do gorgeous work!

That looks great. I need new glass, but I was planning on re-using the frame. How's other progress coming on your car?0

Slow, I'm still in the parts gathering stage. The engine needs to be pulled next, as do the rear fenders. I have purchased a set of external horns,a mirror with clock, a set of fender lamps, extra 16" wheels and a plateable grille shell. The fenders are going to a fabricator who will either make new ones, or, if possible, repair the originals.
faustmb, when you have a chance, can you give me measurements or a template so I can properly position the fender lamps? Thanks!

Looks great. Might I ask how much this cost in total. I need the same for my 33. Thanks,

I'll send pics and measurements tonight. Thanks for posting.0

The 33T convertible uses a completely different w/shield frame than the coupes & sedans. it is a u-channel with a hinge across the top like the 30-31 Hudson sedans used.

Did they also make the hinge for you to go with the frame?

"Completely different" w/s frame for converts? Sure it has the piano hinge top but the bottom section is the same as closed cars, is it not?0

Scott,
Here are some reference pics. I measured both, but the drivers fender is a little straighter so therefore easier to measure. The third pic shows 8" from the side lip of the fender to the center of the lamp. From the front, I measured 17.25" from the front lip to the face of the glass. I can remove a lamp and get more accurate center lines for the hole, let me know.0 -
Thanks. essexcoupe3131, the hinges stay with the body, 3 screws to a side, and they are fine.
The only problem I have run into is the fabricator neglected to make the dowel holes on the frame for the locator pins that are on the hinge. Not sure what the work around for this will be, I sure don't want to drill into that new chrome.I could grind off the pins, they are very short. Also, the weatherstrip from Kgap is making the closure on the windshield nearly impossibile, may have to trim slightly.ANyone else have experience when changing to new weatherstrip? I will post more pics when installed.
Faustmb,Thanks a million for posting the template, that should do me fine. I really appreciate your reply!

Hi Scott,
just remember the rubber may shrink very slightly and and being tight will mold it self to shape of the window frame as time goes on taking up tolerances and keep a good seal as it did on my 31

Mine fit very tight too, but seems to be ok now after 8 or so months.0

I'll try to get a pic of the 33T conv w/shield frame, it is still in the car. May have to wait for a little more snow to melt so I can get into the storage shed.

Got the new windshield frame fit in place today, used some spray silicone to help the gasket ease in position. Now I'll just leave it there and let it form to shape for a few months. I'm very pleased!0

as good info for further projects should I need a screen

Yes essexcoupe3131, it was a tad over $1100. Fabrication, show chrome plating, new safety glass, and new weatherstrip....ready to install. Beautiful workmanship!0
