Hornet's were made from 1951-1954 under the Hudson Motor Company and 55-57 under AMC with Hudson badges.

No Problem Nick,
Are you looking for information about a car you own or researching about a car you want to own?0 -
Hi Chris
I am doing research on differant makes and models of cars and i call it classic car genealogy and i hope some day i will be a member of the wisconsin society of automobile historians. and as for the car i own it is a 1937 Nash Lafayette 400 2 door sedan i am 26 and the car is my project so thanks for asking and i want to go to Wyotech some day to in the street rodding classes and congrats on graduating this year. That sounds really interesting! There is probably a lot of members of HET and other clubs wh would be interested in reading it. I wish you all the best with your Nash project. As for Wyotech they are closing the Sacramento and Daytona Campus's this year (which sucks). If are planning on going, you have to chose between Wyoming or Pennsylvania campus's.
Also I was originally planning on taking street rod but changed it over to ASM since I know I can get further ahead with it, I am considering in the near future heading back to Wyotech to get street rod and trim and upholstery.0 -
What you need to find is a copy of the Rambler family albun. It shops pictures of every year from b eginning to end of all the cars and related companies associated with AMC. Published by AMC in the 70s. I dont know wether the Hudson library has a copy. You might check.0

Along with The Rambler Family Album mentions by 1951hornethasrdtop are three more excelent sources for Hudson.
1. The History of Hudson by Don Butler, often available from Amazon.con
2. Total Domination by Jack C. Miller, this for coverage of Hudsons racing domination of NASCAR and all other racing organizations from 1951-1954. Total wins 168.

The American Motors Family Album: A Pictorial Roll Call of the Passenger Cars, Commerical Vehicles and Trucks ... by John A. Conde(1976) . Available from Amazon.0 -

1956 was the first AMC V-8 engine, 287 CID, then in 1957 they came out with the Rebel with the 327 CID engine. They beat CHevy coming out with their 327 and 5 months later Chevy came out with their 327. That Rebel was one fast car, but did not reach sales quoto and was dropped in 1958 and use the 327 until 1964 and in 65 they came out with the new engine, 290, 343 and the 390 and in 1972 they had the 401. 65 was also the start of the new 6 cylinder engine 232 and 258. Sorry Walt - 1956 AMC V-8 was 250 cubes, not 287 - that came later in the early 60's. George Mason, head of AMC, ordered his engineers to get him a V-8 as soon as possible. 18 months after receiving the order, AMC introduced the 250 cid V-8 in mid 1956. It was only used in the Nash Ambassador Special and Hudson Hornet Special.
Chevy 320 was introduced in 1962 and discontinued in 1969.
It is my understanding that the 327 was finally dropped as being to expensive to be converted to meet new emission standards.
AMC several times came out with over-the-wall hi performace engines, only to drop them after 2 or 3 years. It was like they were saying to the big 3 "see, we an do it to!!!" A combination of high horsepower/torque in a light body made for some unbelievable fast (for a company known for fuel efficient everyday cars) AMC cars during the 60's and 70's.0
