WASP TRANSMISION REMOVAL
ON THE WASP THERE IS A CROSS MEMBER THAT RUNS BETWEEN THE FRAME AND UNDERNEATH THE TRANSMISION.
THEREFORE THE SUGGESTED METHOD OF REMOVAL IS FROM ABOVE VIA THE FLOORPAN.
HAS ANYONE EVER REPLACED THIS CROSSMEMBER WITH A REMOVABLE BEAM..SOMETHING THAT COULD BE TAKEN OUT
TO EASE IN TRANSMISSSION REMOVAL?
WOULD MAKING IT REMOVABLE HAVE ANY NEGATIVE OR ADVERSE EFFECT ON THE INTEGRITY OR STRUCTURE OF THE FRAME?

That can be done if you wish. The one in a car with automatic trans has a removeable one. Could be modified to fit a standard I would think. There is another way to get transmission out if you want - pull motor & transmission together. Its very tight but it will come out . You need to drain the oil out of transmission and leave the plug out or it will hang on crossmember (the clearance is that tight)
And you may need a small bottle jack to sit on crossmember and push floor up slightly.

I didnt say it was "Easy" the radiator should come out and the plate that holds the hood latch. What led me to try this method was a very nice coupe I bought. Was an overdrive car and the floor plate had never been out and had so much sealer on the seam you couls barely see where it was. I just di'nt want to deal with that so I checked the books and the factory said it could be done. They allways assume you know a certain level of mechanics however. In that regard it said drain the lube out of the transmission before removal. I did not because I saw no reson for that. Well as we wiggled the motor / transmission unit out forward it hung up on something. My nephew scooted under the car to see what was what. Said you wont believe this but its stuck on the drain plug. If we had drained the oil and left the plug out it would have slid out,

When I converted my Hornet coupe from automatic to manual transmission, of course I had to cut the welded mount off the donor car with the manual O/D tranny. I wasn't about to wrangle that transmission through the interior of my pristine car, so I made up a hybrid mount, using the center portion of the original manual mount and welding it to the original automatic removable mount.
It strikes me that it could be pretty trivial to cut out the manual mount, then weld a suitable bracket on each frame rail to bolt the mount back on. Would probably take less than a couple of hours with the right equipment.

Also helps to remove the three bolts holding the center steering assembly to let it drop out of the way.. at least on my eight with OD. ( in a long wheelbase)0
