This is only the second Dover I've ever seen, and both only in pictures! This is a sweet looking truck that needs a HET enthusiast buyer! Wish I could have it!

That is one rare Dover - and does tend to answer one question. But it opens up another. The serial number range is for 1930 Essex - 1165674 - 1234266; 1930 Dover (actually Essex Commercial Cars - the Dover name was, as best can be figured, a one year use in 1929) serial numbers, from what I've come up with, ran 12,205 to 14,035. Curious.

That is a pristine looking truck! Seriously what were the screen sides for? Farm Truck, Dog Catcher?0

This truck was at our Hudsons in the Heartland XVI Meet in Pigeon Forge Tn, last month.
It is every bit as beautiful in person as it is in the pictures. I am not sure but I think there are only about 4 or 5 of these known to exist. That is how rare they are.

I say truck this year at Jeffersonville, IN AACA and Pigeon Forge HET Meets. It is a freshly done excellent resortation (over) owned by HET member Ronald Borkhuis of Jonesborough, TN. The truck received First Place Junior and Senior AACA Awards in 2005.0

Bidding died at $14K. Reserve not met and I agree, 14K is far too little for this rare and extraordinary vehicle.0

The right buyer is going to have to see this truck. This one would be a good one for auction, I would think. This one is also worth what someone is willing to pay for it, but I figured if it did sell, would probably be in the 20-25K range. Makes me wonder why they are selling it in the first place.

If that truck is not in HET's Commercial vehicle registry someone should forward that information on this truck to the registry.0

As an adjunct to these conversations, approx. 35 yrs. ago I found a mail truck in pretty fair condition in a junk yard in the Salt Lake City area. I once asked Glen Johnson about it & he said it was "saved" and he thought being restored by a guy in no. Arizona.
About 40 years ago I went to see a guy in Sacramento who had a '29 Hudson conv. cp. & an exc. original Dover mail truck with the mail service logos on it!
I bought the '29 Hudson & he later sold the Dover to Harrah's.
As it was not there at time of this years National I assume it was sold during the massive liquidation of the Collection following Harrah's death but have no idea what happened to it, who bought it, or where it is today.0 -
This truck is listed in the classifieds of the current AACA magazine. Asking price is 60K.0

In regards to Pete Booz's ("Oldhudsons") message of 12/2/05, wondering what became of Harrah's old Dover mail truck: could this be the one that Eldon Hostetler now has in his collection?0

I was at the Harrah's auction June 30th 1979 and still have the catalog of the cars that were up for auction. There were 3 Essex, 1920 phaeton, 1927 speedabout and a 1928 speedabout (Boattail?). 2 Hudsons both 1931 Sport Roadsters body my Murray. There are black & white pictures of the cars in the catalog and the cars are not restored. Must have sold the Dover at another time, I am sure there were many sales of the Harrah's cars. Makes you wonder where they are now..Ron0
