Door panels on a 49 2 door

My door panels are all fabric up to the metal trim around the window. I have been looking at pictures on line and it appears that most cars have a piece of metal or wood between the insert and the window. Is this standard? What is that piece? I bought some material today to make my own panels and I don't know what to do about that spot. Can anyone share pics of their door panels? Thanks

    FWI, Commadore has woodgrained piece that goes complete length under window and Super only has small piece in front. Here are Super pictures showing small piece and complete door

    Yep that is what mine looks like...not that nice of course. I bought material last night with plans of redoing them and saw that wood grained piece and just thought it would make my life easier not having to do that top part too. Hmmm Any ideas on if those pieces are available?

    They never made a 49 Commodore two door, so If you find some trim, it will have to be from a 49 coupe. I sure wish they had, because it would be a beautiful car. There was a blue one at Detroit.. Don't know the owner, but it made my heart skip a beat..

    @SuperDave , are you referring to the Two door Brougham body style?
    I know by looking the production numbers and the History of Hudson that they did make coupes in both Super 6, 8 and Commodore 6, 8.
    I seem to be a Sedan magnet, but I would love to get some coupes to restore eventually. Keep posting pictures of your progress raidmagic, there are a lot of people here will be happy to see another Hudson get back on the road.

    Correct. By two door sedan I am refering to the Brougham. I have a 49 Super 6 Brougham that is almost a basket case and my intention, is to make it a Superdore.. A super with as much Commodore trim as i can. I did that with my 49 four door that recently sold. I sure miss that CAR!

    Ski4life, I don't care about the wood Grain if the pieces are in good shape, what do you want for them?

    You guys are confusing me with all the names, what would you call mine just looking at it from the outside? I know it's the lower model based on it's trim level but I don't know what it's actual name would be.

    @radmagicverionnet - it is difficult to tell which model it is just by looking at it from the outside since some supers have commodore trim.
    Here is a easier way to tell with a lot less confusion... What are the first 3 digits of the cars VIN?
    491 - Super Six; 492 - Commodore Six; 493 - Super Eight; 494 - Commodore Eight.

    Ok So it's set then, 491, I have a super six. Now what does that mean?
    I do know that it has a 308 Twin H power, installed in the 80's when the car was restored. I'll keep updating as I restore it again

    Yep, you have a super six. It just means the model and which trim package it had back in the day, but of course you could add trim and other commodore add-ons for a little extra money.
    Its orgional engine would be a 262 straight six; the 308 Twin-H came in to production in 1951-1954 (and I think it may have went to 57'), so it a later model engine.
    If you are curious to find out the exact year of your engine, in front of the first exhaust port there should be some numbers stamped vertically. If you could find them and post them, someone else from the HET club could probably tell you exactly what year that engine was made.

    It was a Chevrolet pickup color. danged if I can remember what year. It's strange but when I see Chevy pickups, they don't look the same. I guess it has to do with body shape.. I parked next to one and it was the same color, but looked cheap on the truck. It was a single stage Acrylic enamel.

    Your fender ornaments would lead someone to think it was a Commodore, but your hood ornament is Super and the fact that I could see front vent window latches told me it didn't have crank out vents. Nice car..

    There were several options available for the super series that were standard on the commodore. The front fender spears, large hubcaps, the 18" steering wheel and even the stainless trim around the back window. From the picture of your car it's a 2 door coupe. The coupes had the longer trunk and smaller side rear windows. The broughams had the shorter trunk lid like the sedans and a longer side rear window.
