Edmunds manifold for 8 cyl?
A little something for the well-heeled. . .

Just looked back at the ebay posting, and they had a tape measure up by it- showed about 21 inches long. I'm thinking that manifold is for a 6, because I just shipped a Twin H manifold and it was about 23".
Have never seen a "hi-rise" Edmunds.

It is titled Straight 8? 6 . I read that to mean he knows it fits a six but he does not know if it fits the eight. Nothing wrong there. In the text he says "Again this is either for a Hudson straight 6 or 8 cyl. you will need to make that call. " and says he is not familiar with these engines. What more do you want from the guy?
How many of you Hudson guys can tell a Dodge and Plymouth flat 6 cylinder from a DeSoto and Chrysler flat 6 cylinder? Yeah, I thought so.

I wasn't criticizing the guy- he said it was sold to him as an 8, but he's not sure if its a 6 or an 8. Fair enough. Just posted it so the folks could get a look- I didn't mean to be snarky, and I don't think I was.0

I have one of these in much better condition and yes it is for an 8. Here is mine:
This same guy had a Stu V 2x2 V8 Manifold for a Studebaker. Did not sell. Seems to be asking a lot but who knows.

I didnt even know they made any for a eight till about a month ago, A guy in seattle put a 51 with a 8 on craigs list. Said it had speed equip. on it. It was gone in a couple days, I asked on here and walt said he used to have some but left it all when he moved. John0

Maybe there are a few new members who have not seen these pics I posted some time ago.
Frank Kleinig produced it when he was racing Hudsons here in AUS. it is the only one I know of but maybe someone has one hanging on there wall just like I have.

You can use Carter WGCs or WGDs without any issue. I have set it up but never have actually hooked it up. The issue for stepdowns is the height under the hood. I think that short air cleaners will work but I have not fully checked it out.0

Spencer I have a similar looking one-piece aluminium head for a Hudson Eight. It has HUDSON in big letters on the top. Who could have made this? Will post an image when I get the time.0

I picked it up near Grafton many years ago on the remains of a 30 roadster that Bob Powell gave me a lead on, it couldn't have been used on a that motor as a few of the head studs were too short.
Maybe you can chime in on Frank and Clive Gibson's history in Australian motor sport as you know much more of it than me.
I spoke to Clive about the head and he remembered them being made but didn't know how many.
It hangs on the wall of my shed with a few other bits and pieces.

The plugs I believe that is where the sand was removed after casting.
The way our $ is compared to yours sorry not quite enough $s.

Anyone wishing to know more about Frank Kleinig and Clive Gibson, just google their names and it's all there.
One of our main racing circuits here in Australia is called Mount Panorama and the following applies to that track.
One of the articles tells how Conrod straight got it's name after Frank put a conrod through the block on "main straight" as it was then called, after that they named it "Conrod straight".0 -

The parts book shows 165603, suits 1946/1950 8 cyl does not show 165605, typical Hudson parts books.0

The number 165605 is the casting number from which the produced part number 165603.

So is my head a standard or optional Hudson head or an aftermarket one?0

It should be a factory hi compresion head (Alcoa made them). Also helps for better heat transfer . Lot of guys dont like them due to head gasket failures. But if properly installed and not overheated I wouldnt worry ,

I have had a factory Al head on my 8 since '05 without incident.
Also it appears someone did buy the Edmunds 8 manifold for a whopping price of $1,375!0
