Hi All, I'm looking for some info on what years of the 212's were the cam bearings the same. I bought some bearings stating there are for 38 to 47. I tried the fit on a 37 cam and the front and middle cams fit fine but the rear bearing is very loose. I know they changed the cam in 40 with the distributor on top, but when did they change the rear bearing.
Any help much appreciated.
Gene.

  • Do you mean it fits the block loose or the cam loose? Seems to me they went down in size front to back. If I remeber that right maybe they are mixed up or marked wrong ?

Camshafts were changed in '41 with the introduction of the top mounted distributor, hence the bearing would be longer at the rear, not sure of diameter. Up to and including 1937 the bearings were solid babbit, from 38 onwards they were steel-backed.

Parts book shows 33-39 rear cam bearings are same, 40 is different, then 41-47 are same.

Go to the mechanical procedures manuals Alex has posted online. All the dimensions are there. The early 'fat ones' are not available. Gotta make em. I had a couple made from Aluminum. The later 'skinny' ones are available from Dale Cooper.
