Glove box question - 49
Can someone please tell me if the factory installed some type of wire or used some other means to prevent the glove box door from flopping down and smacking into the dash??? My car did not have them when I tore it down, but I seem to remember seeing a car that thad them. If so, does anyone have a photo????? The dash is going back together and I quickly realized that if I dont do something, my new woodgrain job is going to get trashed if I dont work something out.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I want to make my glove box opening on my 49 super six work but I need a new left door as some previous owner wrecked mine. Has anyone got one they would be willing to part with...Jim0

drivers side is a little shorter to keep it off of the shifter and gauges that the previous owner installed.0

Pass side sits level when lowered...0

TwinH has got it about right. I have used the screw that holds the rubber stop to the dash and drilled a small hole in the glove box door in the raised inner lip for a cable. This solved the problem quite well and the cable didn't get in the way.0

That is astounding. Hard to believe that Hudson, with all its innovations, had to come up with a little wire on StepDowns to hold the glove box door open! Even my stone-age 1937 model has a hinge that holds the door open neatly, without resorting to guy wires! Not to be incredulous here... but are you SURE someone hasn't removed an essential piece of hardware at some point in your car's history?0

Oh no, not saying that its an original piece at all. I have no idea what they did originally. Just guessing that in 1949 any cupholders were delivered by carhops and
hung on the door windows.0 -
My '49 Super Six does not have a wire, the door just stops at the end of the hinge travel. Also, no marks or wear on the original woodgrain.0
