How is door check arm removed?
On my 54 Hornet parts car I'm in the process of removing the front doors hinges to give to Jairo to replace the broken hinges on his Hollywood. I've had to drill out some of the door hinge screws and the others screws are loose.
Help needed. How is the door check arm removed to take the door off?

Lee, The door check arm is riveted onto the brace on the 'A' pillar. If you can get a small enough grinder, then use it to grind the peened rivet off. If not, then you could either drill it out or cut it off with a chisel. Chisel is a bit more messy as is punching but it can be done. You can always tell if the door has ever been removed if it has a screw and nut on the check arm vs. rivet. Have fun.0

Thanks Hudzilla, I couldn't see anyother way to remove it. But wanted to check with someone who had removed one in case there was a different solution.

I could not find my grinder. Solution: chisel, hammer and punch did it with minimal dammage.
Just a little skin removal. Wife cleaned cut with alcohol, OUCH, and band-aid.
Parting out 54 Hornet. Call 818-845-2945 I may have what you need.

Sounds like my mother when we were kids! She would scrub with soap & water (ouch) then use tincture of merthiolate (OUCH). We later found that hydrogen peroxide did the trick without all the pain. Guess she was trying to teach us a lesson. LOL
