Hello!
I have been searching all winter and almost all summer now, for new head bolts or studs for my -39 212".
I have found 0, i can not find anything here in sweden nor other places i've searched.

Does anyone have a good tip about where i could find these? Or a good size of normal bolts i could use, the only one i could find in sweden was insex, and i would rather not use that if i can find more correct looking bolts.

Tank you

  • Krille, of one of the US members can't help, any small machine shop in Sweden would be able to make those studs up for you.

    FYI
Suggest try Randy Maas, Dale Cooper, and/or check the Dorman Products Web Site Online Catalog
  • Get the stud size you need and contact ARP.

I bought studs from them for the 37 Terraplane engine that I rebuilt.
  • I used standard grade 8 bolts from the hardware store on my 47 Pickup. No problems in 5 years
  • Don't see why grade 8 wouldn't be good , there isn't a lot of torque on them.
  • I used grade 8 bolts with grade 8 washers under the smaller head size 8 years ago on my 53 308. No problem since then.

  • I used aircraft grade bolts but I have access to that sort of thing. I cant see why a grade 8 wouldnt work well though. They are easy to come by.
  • The originals are equivalent to present day Grade 5 bolts/studs. Anything equal to that or better is going to work just fine.
  • Oh, then grade 8 should be more than enough.
In this case i could just walk 100m from my garage to buy the bolts.
One of the holes in the block will need helicoil aswell. This should be no problem? I know it is not optimal with helicoil, but it should work.
  • I was able to get them at a hot rod machine shop in various grades.
