Front end alignment and rim truing questions.

Hey,
Wondering if anyone in the Kitsap Peninsula, Tacoma, etc area has had their alignment done and can recommend a good shop to have my 36T done at? Being kingpins and shims on the locator arms I dont want to just have someone 'guess'.
Also I recently noticed a wobble when spinning one of my front tires when adjusting the brakes. I assume this to be an out of round rim. Is it possible to have a steel wheel trued back up? I would think that 'back in the day' their must have been a machind or press that could have done that. Now with everything being aluminum and such dont know if thats still done or if I can get it done locally.
Thanks,
Jeff

  • I have some 30 wires that I would like to have done----anyone have a lead?
  • Back in my High School days (55 years ago) my best friend's father had a Wheel Trueing shop. From what I remember, for pressed steel wheels, it was a very manual procedure, totally dependent on the skill of the technician - very little in the machinery line & certainly no presses etc. Spoked wheels needed a similar but different level of skill as well as a 'good ear' to hear & interpret the 'ring'
  • Don't discount the possibility its the tire not the wheel. Spin it again and hold a pencil or other object up to the spinning wheel and see whats out of whack. Rubber or steel ,

  • These guys get all my wheel business. They'll fix what you have or build what you want.

  • Any leads on a good alignment shop yet?
    Thanks,

  • Because modern wheels don't have to be trued, most of that equipment was either scrapped or donated (tax deduction) to High School auto shop programs. I did find a place that still has the equipment here in San Diego, but I haven't made it down there yet with my collection of '36 wheels. As they are a one-year-only item, I plan to get them all straightened.
  • Would it be possible a good motorcycle shop could do it ? They deal with wire wheels all the time I would think ,

  • Hey Richard,
I did get a call back from Rallye America and they said they could do it no problem.
Cost was depending on condition. From $20-$120.

  • I see that they are in CA. Thanks for the tip, Jeff.
  • Your welcome Richard. Glad I could help!
Cant take all the credit tho, TwinH's post above gave me the lead.
