Question on spring shackles.
So I am surfing the auto parts web and at Car Parts Discount they show regular 2 bar type spring shackles.
My questions are: would they really be 'replacement' type for the silent ones on my 36T?
Whats the advantages/disadvantages to them if they would work.
Smoother? Squeekier?
Seems like they would be much simpler to work with than the silent ones and their threaded bushings.

Just ordered a pair from Orielly's for our 41 Big Boy. 35417 and 35516. They get them from Rare Parts. Rare parts online price is higher than Orielly's also. These are the silent type.0

OK, thats kinda what I thought.
Guess I will hunt down some silent type for the fronts. My bushings are pretty shot...
Hopefully I can get just the bushings!

That is where online shopping fails. I went to the store and ordered them. About 43.00 per item and 10.00 shipping total. If we don't support the local stores, they will all go away. That is what the belly button SBC did with your local machine shops. They were cheaper to order online as packages. This killed the local shops.0

I recommend buying a complete shackle bushing kit. I don't think you can get just the bushing. Once you have the shackle disassembled you will find the shackle is probably worn as much if not more than the bushing. I don't have a 36 Manual but you may need a Spring Shackle Bushing Locating Gauge for the front spring similar too or the same as used for the 1946 and later rear shackles. This gauge goes between the springs eye and the shackle to prevent the shackle from bottoming out on the inside end of the bushing. The tool for the 1946 and later rear springs can be made. It is 1/2" thick metal with a slot in the middle just wide enough to slide over the shackle threads and the rest wide enough to support against the spring eye. If the shackle bottoms out inside the bushing it will not rotate. I hope this will be helpful.

Lee, it also will push out the grease fitting and the cap that it screws into. No grease and there goes the shackle. A lot of Hudson cars are running around that way and the shackle bushing wears the frame away. Walt0
